Omega General Help / Drivers Door Solenoid not working
« on: 12 December 2019, 15:36:07 »
Hi All

The driver’s door central locking solenoids have gone on two of my 2003 V6 saloons. I brought some before, but can’t for the life of me remember where I got them and can’t find any trace of a likely transaction  (not sure whether a memory or stupidity issue  ).

Can someone please advise:
a)   where is it best to get them from currently?
b)   who the actual manufacturer is (ie. lucas,  bosch , siemens….. or whatever)?
c)   what the relevant part numbers are?
d)   whether they were fitted to any other common cars (ie other routes to availability)?
e)   are they handed or can same part be use for driver or passenger side?

I need at least 2 of them but may get a few more as I have had them go before.

Thanks M.
PS I did quickly look down other threads and Common Issues/ FAQs but couldn’t see answers.

Omega General Help / Keeping brake discs from going rusty
« on: 22 February 2018, 01:57:44 »
Any good tips for keeping brake discs from going rusty on cars that are left standing?
I have a number of vehicles inc 3 omagas which i alternate, which means that some are left standing.
It annoys me that even after a few weeks you can see rust on the discs through the alloys.

For obvious reasons, i am reluctant to WD40 them etc.......

Omega General Help / Gators for gear stick and handbrake
« on: 22 February 2018, 01:11:16 »
Any one know a good source for the black gators around gearstick and handbrake?
One of my 2003 V6s is very tidy (inside and out) apart from the gators which have semi perished and make it look its age.
I am actually after both manual and auto sets.

Hi Guys

I wonder if you can help.  I have seen a lot about exhausts on the forum and much said about contacting ETS / Eternal.

I am after a rear exhaust section for one of my 2003 Omega 2.6 v6 saloons.  As you are probably aware, the 2.6V6’s were fitted with single tail pipe back boxes from the factory, but I would prefer to fit a twin tail pipe back box as is on the 3.2V6s.   I believe there is no physical / mechanical difference at the joining section (ie where it joins the middle section) but I would like you to check this please.

Prior to posting I emailed ETS last night and oddly I have got the following message back “unfortunately we don't sell the part you are looking for”.   I have asked them to recheck as this doesn’t seem right from all that I have heard, and I was only emailing the general shop email address (which may have been picked up by a less knowledgeale admin person).

I also noticed on the ETS list of exhaust parts for Omegas, twin tail pipe boxes shown against late model 2.2 omegas, which can’t be right.  I don’t think any 2.2s were ever produced with twin tail pipe back boxes. Have they just got their listings wrong.

Any thoughts?
Any specific contacts at ETS I should speak to?
Or other providers I can try?

Thanks for your help.  M.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi from North London / Herts
« on: 15 November 2017, 01:24:13 »
Hello All,

I went ahead and posted a problem before saying hello which was remiss of me - Apologies.  And posted in wrong place to add insult to injury! - sorry Kevin.

Great to have found the forum and so many Omega enthusiasts. I think i did come across the forum briefly some years back, when i was looking for something, but the extent of the forum didn't really register :(   Having looked a lot more, it is truly amazing to see all the effort that has gone in to the guides  / information available and the breadth of knowledge !

I have had  a number of omegas over last 20 years and currently have three.

03 2.6 V6 CD Saloon &  03 2.6 V6 CDX saloon   both tidy and relatively low mileage
Plus a 03 V4 2.2 CD saloon (silver good bodywork) -  Was running, but cam belt snapped now donor car / breaking - let me know if there is anything you need.
Also been looking for a decent low mileage late (03 or 04) 3.2 V6 saloon in black (possibly blue (not such a fan of silver)) for some time now.

I am not a mechanic by trade or necessarily the best DIYer, but i do have some knowledge, a lot of owner side experience and an engineering background, so I hope to be able to contribute in some small way.

Keep up the great work and i look forward to being more involved.
Thanks to all who have contributed.

Mark.

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble and could do with some advice for my 2.6 V6 2003 Omega (Y 26 SE engine i believe)

Cutting a long story short.  The car cut out and later restarted then cut out again.   RAC called and said they thought it was the camshaft sensor.   I have sourced one, after some difficulty as vauxhall couldn't supply, and now have a lucas SEB969 part.   The sensor is located next to the oil filter at the rear of the block close to the bulk head.   I have got the sensor part out (lot of wiggling and WD40) , which i was told is the hard bit (apparently they can expand in situ),  and it is still hanging via lead. It winds up round the manifold (foil protected sheaf) and then comes out at the back of the engine somewhere.

My problems are:

1. I can't see where the connector actually plugs in the back of the engine (very little room back their) So topside i haven't been able to disconnect it yet.  Does anyone have diagrams?

2.  There doesn't seem an easy way to get the sensor cable assembly out.  Very tightly would round etc and i don't want to just yank it.  Is there an easy way to get it out?

3. Underneath it looks like i need to take off the exhaust manifold to free the assembly and on the topside it looks like i need to remove the engine bay trip below the windscreen just to get some room, to work / view etc.   Is this really necessary for changing the sensor or am i missing something?  It seems just plain daft to have to go to this much effort to just replace a sensor!!  And I really didn't want to be going to this much effort and thought it would be relatively easy  :(

4.  If i do need to take off trim at rear of engine bay below windscreen, where are the fixings?   I have removed obvious one on LHS and the windscreen wipers (that fit through trim) but it doesn't seem to want to lift out and i am reluctant to be too rough for fear of breaking something?

5. Long shot I know, -  but if anyone is in the Harrow area (or close to) with knowledge and fancies giving me hand, please let me know as I am trying to get this fixed over weekend.

Thanks guys
Mark.
