In pure abuse terms, an F reg 1.3 Polo, never once refused to start and nothing ever broke on it. Second would be either a 1.8 Vectra C or current Omega :-\ as said yes stuff breaks, but it's usually a quick and easy fix :y

Lexus is300 3.0  THE STRAIGHT 6 ONE! ::)

Can't really say the omega is reliable, what with hbv's, crank sensors, alternators and bushes etc. but it will no doubt do the most miles of any car I've owned. So on that basis, Omega.

Ha, who'd o' thought. ;D

Ford Consul 2.5 followed by 2.8i Granada although power steering racks used to only last about 20,000 miles on the Granada.

Most unreliable was a Volvo 960 estate, which was pre-registered with zero miles when I got it, new engine at 27,000 where there was a casting flaw in the block, blown head gasket and new head at 86,000 where the casting had started to disintegrate and along the way, just about every electronic sensor needing replacement.

My Omega would be one, 5 years with just service items, few minor things but nothing major. Then again, a MK4 Astra Van which I had for a while never put a single foot wrong.

I bought a 1978 Ford Cortina 2.3 Estate for about £250 in Sydney.  Drove it all around Australia and all I did to it was flush the radiator and treat it to new headlight bulbs.  It had done about 300,000 kms, of which 25,000 or so were mine and I sold it for about £400 a couple of days before I left Oz!!  8)

Otherwise it's my Omega.  :y  In 8 years and 75,000 miles it's only let me down once and that was a couple of weeks ago when the alternator packed up!  ::)  Mind you I've never fettled with any other car like I have this one!!  ;)

Since my Fiesta, cant say I have had an unreliable car.

Certainly never one that broke down on (touch wood).

The Facelift Omega we ahd for 9 years, no failures, just servicing and maintenance.

My old Nova I had for 9 years, treated badly but ran and ran and ran.

The Cav was also very good.

The Zafira I have now put 100k miles on and it still does 50mpg and is on the original brakes!

Strangely enough my current Range Rover. It has had a few niggly faults in 7 years (central locking) but has never failed to start or get me to my destination and back.

My (current) 1997 transit 2.5Di (bannnanana engine) which I paid £850 for
138K - 30K in my ownership over 3 years.
Never Ever failed to start first time - even at -18c, and has taken me from Cornwall to the far north of scotland.
passed last two MOTs WITHOUT WELDING
The heater works...

too early to tell on the lexus GS300 (3L straight 6) - but no issues yet in 6 months of ownership and cost £600ish

The Zafira I have now put 100k miles on and it still does 50mpg and is on the original brakes!
A sure sign you've now officially become an old man. You've lost the will to try.

Still, there's always the mid-life crisis to look forward too ;D

My bro had one as a runaround, when he was trying to keep his (new) 525 for special outings.

You could see the road, every warning light was on, the brakes had a metal on metal sound.  In the end, the MOTer couldn't get it through. Thankfully.

V6 ..thats entirely a different league different subject Opti.. apart from its famous oil , water leaks and bottom end issues pistons are ok ;D ;D

however I must note that v6 is too complicated compared to k4m.. and k4m is primarily small volume rally engine.. so stock internals can easily cope with 180-190 hp from its 1.6 volume..  there are super 1600 variants that have  220 hp  in na form

 French spaghetti  ;D :-X

here are the electrical problems that I have faced,

weak battery recharge because of alternator and battery feed cable from alternator which routes via  key module..  solution servicing alternator and extra battery feed line..

remote keys stop locking/unlocking (both) which requires main fuse circuitry to be changed(not an immo or coding problem)

I had an old Peugeot 405 grtd a few years back as a stand in car for a few months. L reg and 389k on the clock when I got it. It was taxed 4mths & had 8 months ticket, although it moaned & groaned a bit it started no matter what weather was chucked at it . Not a bad car really and was very economical too. Got it to 418k just before  fuel pump went west,  cheesed off wanted to get it to 500k. Still, got £200 scrap!

Rover sd1,bought at 80k for 875,put 3 hundred thou on it over 6 years, fitted twin turbo,s halfway through the six year period, sold it for 5 hundred after removing the tubo,s then sold the turbos for another 5 hundred, briliant car!
followed by H16Owl,A £500 wreck of acarlton gsi which required new sills and some chassis welding, which in spite of thrashing around almost all the racetracks on track days only ever let me down once, when i blew the engine on track at Castle Combe while holding off a mitsubishi evo for 4 laps, :'( got it towed home fitted new engine on the monday, and was back at work on the tuesday, fitted injected Lpg a year after i got it,lost track of the miles it has on it,as i never looked! well over 200k though, and sold for 2grand :y

I've been driving legaly  :) since 1985 and have probably had about 15-20 cars but thinking back hard I think my Omega has been the most reliable, I have had a few of the usual problems but out on the road it has only ever let me down once in 3 years.

Back to my 1990 Rover GSi, after I gave to my big bro, he went from 80k to 140k, and only ever bought 2 tyres, and annual MOTs. Nothing else. No oil, coolant, brakes, nothing.  I think his MOT chap used to put some screenwas in to get it through ;D

He used it was a workhorse when rebuild his house, which knackered the bodywork a bit, which is what killed it in the end.
