Not to sure for the 2.5 v6 but it could be your HT leads breaking down. There is a way you can check this by way of take each lead off in turn put a spark plug in and crank the engine over and check the spark.

Weak: change laeads
Strong: investigate elsewhere.

I am sure others on here may be able to give more advise on this but I would check the leads first.

Does EML come on when it happens? Does EML come on with ignition?

If so, read the codes (can be done with paperclip if 2.0/2.5/3.0).  If not, check HT side - plugs/leads/DIS, as well as oil in plug wells.

If any of above doesn't make sense, let us know :)

Yes, it may well be HT related then.

However, before spending money, just check for air leaks as well...

The easy way to check for airleaks is with a can of carb cleaner. With engine running at normal idle(engine warm) spray the carb cleaner around all the parts that could leak air, if leak dectected the engine idle will change......wait for revs to settle and spray again in that area to pin point the leak ;)
