Non Omega advice - VW window
« on: 27 October 2014, 22:02:16 »

Hi Guys

I'm trying to help my son's girlfriend and her VW Beetle window.  We've looked on web, seen YouTube etc but can't find an answer.  I’m hoping that I may get some help here.

The driver's window stopped going up and down and an initial web search indicated this was the regulator and a repair kit was duly ordered and fitted.  This lasted seconds only, the cable in the motor driven drum got mangled.  It was assumed that it had been fitted wrongly so another was bought!!

We fitted this second regulator kit this evening, only to find that it makes a lot of ‘graunching’ noise when driving up and down.  Even with the door panel removed and no window to lift the whole thing doesn’t move smoothly.  The cable goes tight and loose, depending on the direction the motor is driving.

I’m at a loss what is wrong and would appreciate some suggestions and am anticipating that someone on here may have the answer?!

Thanks, Steve

Im assuming that the window regulator is the same as other VAG brands.

If you have bought the full built up regulator with the steel bars which house the rollers you should have no problem.

If its just a cable and rollers kit then dont waste your time trying to fit it.

Yep the bearings in the motor gearbox fail and so do the rollers, there are crap design and fail A LOT on VAGs.

So the only answer is the full regulator kit  :y

Seen loads of these. The roadside fix is to use several folded paper wedges to hold the window in place.

I found superglue to be particularly effective when the cable snapped on one of the rear regulators on my first Granada :-X
