The Jag looks a bargain! You could easily spend the same again though if anything more than the ash tray needs emptying!  ::)

... please help  :-[ :(

At least your mid life crisis cars are inexpensive, I was looking at Opti's territory of car  ::) ::)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-SL500-Huge-Spec-inc-Glass-Roof-AMG-Wheels-V8-Convertible-STUNNING-CAR-/191382491241?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2c8f491069

Loose change to Lord opti , those merc's do sound nice though  ::) A soft top would be more practical for me though  :-[

A couple of year ago when I  bought my R Class, my next door neighbour bought a similar aged X5. He had it just a couple of weeks before he had to spend a few grand on it ....... something to do with injector or swirl flaps  :-\ :-\ :-\

I had the pleasure of using one of them (98 reg'd) for a week when we lived in Feltham back in 2001, I always swore that If the chance arose for me to have a half decent car then a Jag wouldn't be on my list of choices.
After that week of using it, my mind was changed  :y

If you had highlighted the next sentence, you would have seen that Andyroid is a Jag convert ::)

But to answer your question... probably intermittent build quality/dubious electrics/expensive tyres/a propensity to rot/and a thirst that would make Oliver Reed blush*...

* delete as applicable  :y

I think the last ones made were 2004  :-\ Maybe the 2.8 diesel would suit better in that but i think they phased that unit out early  :-\

Big bro has an X5. Complete with a new £7k gearbox, that took BMW dealers years to diagnose.

I'd had a couple of XJS's in the past (granted it was the early past), and aside from everything that Al listed I didn't find them impressive at all from a performance viewpoint.
If anything, the XJR is what the XJS should have have been to start with IMHO.

My current ride at the time was a Pontiac Firebird, again this wasn't overly quick and you didn't feel it when planting the throttle until you were already rolling at 30mph +
Like most Yanks it didn't do corners all that well, but it would pull itself up to 140 if you found a stretch of road long enough.
I'll post a couple of pics up when I get back home (again).
