"52" reg Omega 2.2dti non starting
« on: 24 August 2009, 20:19:26 »

My pal was reversing and dropped off as kerb. The car cut out and not run since. I have checked it out and has no physical evidence underneath of contact dropping off the kerb. Have knocked off injector pipes and turned it over but still dry as a bone. The book says fuse is number 18 for pump but no 18 is non existent and never had one. Lastly it will fire if aided by Easy Start. Any ideas please ?

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum.

Is there plenty of diesel in the car, I have just done quite a lot of work on my 2.2 because it wouldn't run. If the car will run on East Start then you have a fueling problem. I started with the fuel filter and seal, then I replaced the injector seals and fuel return pipes but unfortunately for me it turned out to be the injector pump which can cost £500+ for a reconditioned one.

Hi Pete. Yes it has plenty of fuel in it. I am in the trade but bit baffled by this one. Seems to be pointing in the pump direction but was running fine before not missing a beat, just wondered if anyone had same problem

I bought mine as a non runner mainly to make a few quid but also because i've never worked on a diesel before so thought it was cheap enough if I cocked it up. After reading loads about them, it seems quite a common problem with the Bosch VP44 pump. :(

I do believe that they have a cut out sensor that cuts off the fuel when involved in an accident. This has probably been activated when it dropped off the kerb thus why no fuel. Im not certain where it will be installed buy they are usually fitted behind the drivers side footwell cover.

Is there a 'THUMP' cut out on them? Like the older fords used to have? My mothers Fiesta D used to cut out everytime she bumped off the kurb and she could never reach the reset button ;D

That would, i reckon, give a P1660 code in ecu.  Have codes been read?

Looking at the wiring diagrams for the late 2.5td relay K16 (reconveying pump) and fuse 18 are the only things on the fuel pump wire (red trace blue). Worth checking? I'll still have a look in the morning though :y

Soz, may have led you up garden path - the code and the 'fuel cutoff solenoid' are the normal ones found in FIPs.  Not sure if there is an inertia type one, can't find anything useful

The fuse 18 has never been fitted in this car, even took the fuse box out to check behind it but nothing. An inertia type would make sense as no codes but cant find it if there is one

sorry guys but dont think there is an inertia switch n fact i know there isnt!! i first things first
1 take off fuel filter an fill it and replace i know these engines are a bugger to bleed and the slightest air leak will stop the fuel being drawn up as it relys on suction from the injector pump to draw the fuel ,stupid design but there you go once the filter is full have someone crank it while you crack off the injectors to help with the bleeding process unless you have a vac pump?
if not an old trick is a gallon of diesel in a can and a pipe leading from can to pump so you get gravity feed to the pump and it should fire up, if it runs then you have an air leak somnewhere in the fuel system,

I've fitted a bulb type hand pump with a oneway valve to the fuel feed pipe, similar to the ones fitted to Rover/peugeots.

[smiley=shocked.gif] I used to be interested in getting a 2.2 diesel, I'll stick with the TD [smiley=shocked.gif]
