Timing Locking Kit 2.2 Petrol Engine
« on: 16 April 2020, 05:56:39 »

Does anyone have a cam/crank locking set for the 2.2 petrol engine I can buy?

Just bagged a 2.2 with less than 60k miles and 1 owner. Belt was last done 2017 10k miles ago, so will do it when they deliver the car.

Cheers

You also need to change the water pump with the belt.
There is no timing kit required, just a locking wedge for Vauxhall twin cam engines. Here's a metal one for £7 delivered.

when I was doing the same job, whoops 5 years ago it might need doing again shortly

The lug on the  WP needs to sit in the recess of the plastic  cowl, the correct position looking at the foto means my WP needs rotating anti-clockwise ; if you get my meaning
But you probably already know this anyway  ::)
I`ll get another Gates kit which includes the WP,

As stated, the 2.2 is a more traditional cambelt setup, as unlike the V6, its either dead on perfect, or 1 or more teeth out.

Hence you only need a wedge to lock the 2 cam pulleys together.

Don't forget to get coolant, as that will need replacing after taking the pump out.

Get good pictures of the pump before removal, as its possible to get it in the wrong way.

Thanks for that pointer - I hadn't a clue it could go in the wrong way round so you've saved me a lot of swearing and shouting!

This forum is definitely one of the best with the best people I have ever been a part of.
