Title: Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth hands-free kit
Post by: JasonH on 10 June 2019, 20:15:32
We have a Bluetooth cradle thing wired into our Mondeo. It's useful for holding the phone when charging and using a phone as a Sat Nav but the Bluetooth calling is epically bad. You have to press and hold a difficult to reach button for about 2s to answer a call and the microphone is rubbish.

It won't even pair properly with my new phone. It sort of pairs but doesn't work - brilliant. (Lizzie I feel your pain!)

What I want for this car is something that plugs in the lighter socket that will pair nicely with a couple of phones and provides decent call quality. Ideally it'll have a USB charge socket on it, not be too big and not be expensive.

There are lots of this sort of thing on the web but does anyone personally have one they recommend that costs less than say £50.

Thanks

Nextbase In-Car DAB DAB350 £28.75 save £101.24 (77% OFF) (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nextbase-In-Car-DAB-DAB350-Digital-Radio-Bluetooth-Handsfree-Calling-Adapter-Kit/112636607277)

This is the one I have and it works very well, with even an FM link for playing iTunes music through the car speakers.

It even pairs without any problems (!!!  ::) ::) ;D)

You just have to ensure your phone's sound volume is fully adjusted for the Bluetooth link  ;)

Looks very nice but it's only really for the odd phone call that comes in when I'm driving so I don't think I really want to spend quite that much.

Looks like a huge bargain. I was hoping to avoid too much wiring but perhaps that's unavoidable.

I do not have many calls at all, but it is a good system when I do. When talking about price, is 6 points on your licence and a £200 fine ok when you are caught using your phone because the Bluetooth link failed and "you just had to take that call; I do not usually do it officer!" :D ;)

It's OK almost all road policing seems to be done by speed cameras these days ;)

Seriously if the hands-free isn't connected I just let the call go to voicemail but I find it really annoying to have missed the call.

Over 6 weeks now and I'm finding it very easy to live with, a very enjoyable place to be, and I know nothing of any stigma ....  and if there is.. I'll happily ignore it !!!  :)  :)

I do have a little gizmo in my Smart that came from Costco, it's name escapes me though, clips to the visor that works well and will stream music too.

The sun visor ones I've used I struggle a bit to hear clearly.  But it was probably the cheapest Chinese junk.  The other killer for me is that I'd forget to charge it - though that might be due to the fact I've *always* had proper kits and never had to worry about it.

Some devices, although they will pair to multiple devices, they can only connect to one device simultaneously, so if you take both phones in the car, it may only connect to one, and the other will be disconnected - if this is important to you, check before buying.

Other simple option is those gay over-the-ear devices, although they are starting to be banned to use when driving in some countries, and I suspect it won't be long before Blighty follows suit.

It's the convenience of having a built-in system in my other car this is driving this. Having to charge or plug in something just isn't going to happen. There will be a quick journey where it won't be worth doing and that will be the time someone rings.

Perhaps I'll just dig out the old Nokia CK-7W (that used to be in my Omega all those years ago) and plumb that in.

Nope that's a fail....I have the box with some spare leads in it but the kit must be still in the Omega.....

Pretty certain the CK-7W can only connect to 1 device.  But sounds like thats the sort of thing you are after, though there will be some wiring

Istr it can take two devices, but I would need to check. Plugs straight into the Omega wiring, but don't know about a Mondeo.

The one I have connects to more than one device, which means for me my phone and iPad. ;)
