Omega General Help / BEARINGS FUBERD.

Aa couple of weeks ago  my v6 developed a high pitched bearing noise at the front of the engine, so i removed the aux belt and the noise dissapeared, so i guessed it was the aux pulley and puchased a new one from vx.
Today i fitted it and started the engine only to find that the noise was still there, DAMM BLAST AND DEARY ME[in not so many words] it turns out to be the alternator bearings are noisey. :(
I know that they are replacable  but i want to know if there are any special tools needed to do the job.

I have had a gander at the how 2's but did find the info i need, i wish to remove the climate panal from a facelift  elite. Do i need to remove the radio or any thing at all? :-/

Well, here we go with a problem that i have on my v6 tourer, last year i gave the old girl a whizz down to alicante in spain, and the drive went like a dream.
After a few days into the holiday the air con seemed to be struggling to keep up with the heat which was about 90 degres. LOVERLY. ;D
So when we got back i had the system vac'ed and gassed by my pal at vx in kingston and the air con was once again tip top.
After a week the air con was now not switching on at all so it went back in to be re done[At no expence to me i might add]. Again it would only last a week.
So this tuesday i booked it into vx for a full system check and re gass.  After extensive checks with  a uv lamp over all the joints and seals, the evaporator and condensor including the reciver dryer, no leak can be found. they have even used a sniffer to detect gases but it can not detect anything.
It was regassed yesterday and was empty again this morning when the car was started.
Has anyone on here ever experianced this problem and have any views on what it could be.
When the system is vac'ed it is pulling a vacum so seems as the system is ok but it wont hold pressure.

My dads v6 omega has developed a problem with the  speedo head where the speedo works normally but the odometer does not , so is this a simple stripped gear that can be replaced or is it just better to replace the entire speedo head.  ::)

Will an 02 plate 3.2 elite have the latest gearbox and climate updates already downloaded to it as my dad is going to buy this car. It has done 67,000 miles and is owned by an ex vx mechanic and is a minter.

Today i went out with mrs ffcgary and opened the drivers door and heard the dreaded sound of the door check strap break off the door inside, could anyone please post up the part no for the repair kit please, it is the drivers side that i require if they are not universal.

 This is just not what i need just before my hols, and i have been so carefull since i have owned the car to aviod this problem :( >:(

Good evening all
 I have a pal who is not online that has a 3.0 v6 and it has failed the emissions test on the MOT today, the print out says

1, Exhaust emissions carbon monoixde content at idle exessive
2, Exhaust emissions carbon monoixde content AFTER 2nd fast idle exessive
3, Exhaust emissions Hydrocarbons after 2nd fast idle exessive
4, Exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specific limits.

Can any body tell me what these mean, and does it mean the cats are fooked.

Or is it something silly that has failed. ::)

 If any one has a v6 engine sitting in their shed /garage/ frontroom then could you please measure the dip stick tube from the point that it enters the block, MM or INCH Dont matter either way.Many thanks Gary. ;)

Due to a rather stupid slip of the hand i have managed to drop a small bolt down into the crank case of a v6 that i am preparing to transplant into my brother inlaws car. :( It went down the hole below the crankcase vapour trap at the back of the r/hand cylinder bank.

Now to remove the said bolt i am going to have to remove the sump pan main casting and remove the oil baffle to get to it.  i know there is a seal to be replaced but i need to know what sealant i will need to refit it back together. is it the same as the black goo used on the cam covers, HELP PLEASE,  Stupid from Mitcham. ::)

 I seem to remember somebody saying last year that they knew of a company that repairs the pixal display as i have got 2 compleat rows of pixals gone, bugger me they were ok last

Does any one have any experiance of removing the original gear knob on a pre face lift 97, as i have an irmscher wood one to fit and it does not appear to twist off. is it held on by some kind of clip or screw? ::)

 Does any one know if the leather handle of the hand brake lever comes off seperatly from the metal, as i met with dazzler yesterday, and he tried to remove the said item but without much luck from an elite that i am breaking. It looks as though the whole assy has to be removed from the car, anyone done this before. :question

Have today been on 150 mile run and the temp at running speed on the M25 was between 92 & 95 on the gauge. when i start to drive on slower roads the temp quite quickly climbs to about 98 when the fan cuts in. The car does not over heat or give any problems but i am almost sure that the rad fan is not running at full speed. The temp does come down more  quickly if i raise the engine revs  to 2000rpm but again rises when the motor returns to idle.  I have also noticed today that when i switch the ign on when hot, the gauge climbs above 100 then settles back to about 95. The car has recently had a coolant flush [with forte] and a new water pump[gen vx] and filled with red antifreez to a 50/50 mix. The car is not losing any coolant at all.  :-?

Any ideas as to what the problem may be, Gary.

Can anyone with more knowledge than me help. My brother inlaw has  VECTRA B 2.5 V6 SRI and wanted to know where the engine no is located, so i went and had a look to let him know. But here is where i need help, the engine no is unreadable due to rust and i am almost pos that the engine number on the log book is not the currant no. Is the number stamped any where else as he will need a cam belt change soon and they ask for the engine no :(.
