Howdy chaps and chapettes
Mega been lying for a week or two in a very slight downhill position. Noticed the inside of screen was beads of water, thought mm not seen that before, must have a water leak, sure enough front n/s floor is swimming. What is common prob causing this?

When that happened to me, it was a blocked skuttle drain (nearside of the car) and the pollen filter was swimming in water too.
At the bottom of the drain is a rubber bung with a supposed one-way flap in it, to let water out and prevent engine fumes from entering the car.
Serek applied a very technical solution to mine.....he threw the bugger away! :y 8)

This is placed down under the pollen filter then? So how does water get in, is it through vents? Have had a lot of rain recently. I've also just recently sealed scuttle under wipers as it was dripping into engine bay.

Remove the pollen filter for easier access - there should be a guide - and right at the bottom there will be this rubber thing, but it could be obscured by a lot of debris if not recently cleared.
Poke a stiff wire/thin rod down it and it should open the flap and release the water, etc.
If your probe won't open the flap, give it the Serek technical solution.....

The drain blocks up & rain water over flows into the car where the heater fan blows into the car

My scuttle drain is rather full but I think it still just about lets water out. but I had a wet drivers side carpet in my 3.2 estate and it turned out to be the sunroof drain tubes were blocked. so I blasted some WD40 down them and it seemed to clear the problem.

Wont have that problem as no sunroof!

Ive had that in the past,sounds like scuttle drain I check mine whenever I get the chance ie very often

I'd never checked down that deep hole under cabin filter, well just a cursory glance and just seen chassis leg & bulkhead.

I just remove the bung entirely, causes more probs than it solves

Not so fast...
The drain has the main ecu/body wiring loom running directly above it and through a grommet on the bulkhead rendering it almost invisible ;)

I was getting wet carpets even though the scuttle was clear. I had bad corrosion towards the bottom of the chassis leg where the plates of metal seam together. I painted the area with bitumen paint to seal again. I also ran a bead of clear silicon at the bottom of the windscreen where it hits the rubber seal as there were visible gaps. Also the corner of the seal wasn't sealing up against the glass.
So far the car is dry despite heavy rain since I did the work. :D
Hope you manage to cure as it's a pain having to dry the inside of your screen before driving off. :-\

Same with me - nearside scuttle like a swimming pool
Just reach down into the water and clear the blockage at the bottom
It'll be like going to the loo after 10 pints of Guinness !! It'll flow out
Other issue is there's a bunch of wiring loom submerged too which didn't create a problem on mine but could easily have done so.

I really need to clear out the crap in my car before the rot sets in and the chassis leg disappears.

So, checked scuttle drain and it seems fine. Noticed a wee bit split on bulkhead panel where i'd dug dry sealant out causd i'd spotted a wee touch of rust.Thinkin might be something to do with it so greased over it as temp fix.

Passenger front swimming again, cant be scuttle drain as not blocked. Any further ideas what it could be? Not the time of year i want to start stripping out carpet and hosing down so will need to soak it up till i get round to having a proper look.

its usually the scuttle area but anyway heres a daft idea. soak up as much as you can with towels sponges wet vac etc until you can dry it out properly ,carpet up job etc. however you choose.soak up some with white kitchen towels to make sure you are looking at clear rainwater rather than antifreeze although you would know if it was that anyway.now heres the detective bit.mix up a bucket of coloured water.use whatever you wish to make this.a small amount of coloured emulsion paint,food dye of even beetroot juice whatever .gently pour this over the passenger side of the scuttle area/windscreen corner so it flows down and drains out of the. bottom.hopefully!. then check inside again to see if any fresh but now coloured water has appeared. again white kitchen towels are best for this.if so then you now know that its definately somewhere in that area.check usual drain bung,seams,etc. .

be the pollen filter housing filling up.. remove pollen filter check for water and clear drains holes at bottom.. i removed grommet on inner wing to botton of pollen filter and mine never filled up again

Get a torch & a long stick and give the bottom of the pollen filter housing a good poke ..... other than a rusted out hole, it does seem as though the grommet at the bottom is blocked.

I did check all that area and was draining, will take another look. Granted i've been finding water leaks on cars for 20 years so shouldn't be too hard to find once i go to town on it.

I believe a post sometime ago told of corrosion in the walls of this area, the pollen filter well, allowing water in to the car interior..

Just noticed it's wet in the back passenger side now :o Car sitting on slight slope downfacing so maybe leaking from back somewhere? Did have it out a run Sunday to get the cobwebs off, however front was more or less dry as I had soaked it all up and put paper on it so couldn't have run in from the front to the back.
Put a dampener on things this - cue the one liner!

Water has travelled all the way back from the front in my experience. Still think that you have corrosion on the seams within the pollen housing if the bung is clear. My water issue all but disappeared after I painted the rusted areas with bitumen paint. Although car still steamed up over night. I think the noise damping foam holds a serious amount of water..It's busy rusting away the floor ;D

I could see noise dampening on bulkhead above floor, like my cavy, it's about an inch or more thick. Holds water like no ones business. Nightmare to dry out.

Tunnie had a wet rear carpet that we eventually traced to a hole in floor, look like it should have had a rubber bung or similar.
He just used a sealer over the hole... ...which I guess is an improvement on gaffer tape!

I noticed this leak starting again yesterday as there was a lot of precipitation the last few days. Basically I shimmied under the passenger side of dash and caught this:

I then checked the drain under scuttle and it was clear. It must be running down to this what looks like heater air intake or motor section.

have you checked under the pass seat, see if its wet there. as found a floor pan rubber on mine that would let water in going though the wet stuff. and pooled at the front foot area. but it was the floor rubber seal. removed it and cleaned it round. and put sealant around the rim and put the rubber seal back in, not done it since.

I did have a wet rear floor at one point, i reckoned it was water from front running back, as car was parked uphill a wee bit, usually parked on a downhill slope. I dont use it in rain if i can help it, so not much chance to see but will check those plugs next time im under.
