Omega General Help / Broken Water Pump ??????
« on: 18 June 2009, 22:25:48 »
I was travelling down the M1 on route to catch a flight from Heathrow on Tuesday. Suddenly steam was everywhere and when we stopped we could see that the water pump was knackered. After being recovered and taken to a local garage, I had the pump fixed. However, when the car was started up, there is now an extremely loud knocking and clanking coming from the top of the engine. It sounds like a london taxi!! (noisy diesel)

Has anyone got any ideas as to what is wrong? The only assumption I can come to is that the timing belt has maybe jumped a tooth or two. The engine was silent before the pump went and now I think I'm going to be looking at scrapping it! :(

i could ask my mate, he works for vx, and does private work, will save you a fortune,  if you are prepared to drive to watford,

Yes that would be helpful. I'm only about 60 miles from there. Just depends what the difference in price would be. Cheers.

Are you capable of DIY?  There is a good DVD on the website taking you through all the steps of changing the cambelt and tensioners.  Think it shows you how to change the waterpump as well.  I think you'll need a locking kit to do it though.  Link at the bottom.

I've heard of garages refusing to change the cambelt on the v6 before so if you do find one it's likely to be pricey.

I would not even dream of doing a job like that. Mainly because I dont have the time, no experience and also I have no garage. I have done a cambelt on an old escort MK3 and that was bad enough!

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 Cambelt Change
« on: 03 April 2008, 19:20:03 »
Sorry if this question has been asked and answered before.

I need to change the cambelt on my 1998 Omega 2.5 V6 because I have no record of when it was last changed.

I asked at 3 garages in my area and they refused to do it saying the job was a pig!

I was wondering if anyone has had theirs done at a Vauxhall Master fit or whatever and how much it cost you.

The car is worth about £700 tops and think that if the cost of a belt kit replacement is over £250 then it would not be worth doing.

Omega General Help / SLOW IDLE PROBLEM
« on: 31 January 2008, 21:28:57 »
My 2.5 V6 idles at 500rpm when warm and is fine, but every so often (very regular recently) the car shakes and goes to stall but kicks back in to stop it konking out (The same effect you get the moment you turn the A/C on), it then stabilises for about 10 seconds then tries to stall again.  However there is no electrical load doing it as everything is off including A/C.  I took it for a 100 mile run the other day and everytime I stopped at the traffic lights it would start shaking and almost stall. Apart from this the car drives perfectly (no misfires and loads of power) :(

Omega General Help / ALLOY WHEEL ANTI THEFT BOLT
« on: 25 January 2008, 20:55:33 »
HI.

Today I got a puncture and when I went to get it sorted at Kwik Fit they asked me for the security key for the hub cap on the alloy wheel. I didnt know what they were talking about and so checked the handbook. Sure enough there is such a thing and it was supposed to be stored with the tools etc in the boot. However there was only the jack and the brace but no key. I therefore could not have the tyre repaired. Does anyone elso know about this and could I get a replacement from Vauxhall?  I assume all the keys are standard and can be borrowed from any Omega. I need one urgently to get the wheel sorted. Thanks  :)

Omega General Help / Re: Cant find the thread

Thanks for trying but that was not the one. Somebody fitted the fake wood trim from a Climate Control Omega into a standard Air Con Omega. They showed how they did it. Technically it cant be done but he managed it. I have the same wood trim to fit in mine. I read it ooohhh about 4 weeks ago but cant find it again.

Cheers dude  :y

Hi.

Somebody posted somewhere in the forum about fitting the wood surround kit into an omega with Air Con and not Climate Control. I'm Bu**ered if I can find it. If you come across it on your travels, can you post the link here. Thanks  :y

Time to pick you brains.

I have seen this on Ebay (now been sold) - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-WOOD-CLIMATE-CONTROL-PANEL_W0QQitemZ200159492865QQihZ010QQcategoryZ10416QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now this item is for the Climate Control version. Do you think it would fit on the Air Con model (e.g The four turn dials)  It looks the same. Im after the wood surround for mine but it is not the Climate Control model. What do you reckon

Omega General Help / Elec Passenger Seat Fault
« on: 12 October 2007, 21:33:04 »
Hi all.

The passenger electric seat is faulty on my 98 CD. Press the "UP" button and it just clunks. Press the "DOWN" and it just clunks again. Couldent find much about it in the Haynes Manual so it looks like the seat needs to come out. However im a bit dubious about doing that because of the seat belt tensioners. Any advice?

Hello Moderator.

Thanks for your reply.

The service history of the car is FULL! Cambelt was done about 5000mls ago. Loads of receipts. Air Con re-gassed in the summer. Two new wishbones for last MOT. Full 12mths Mot and 6 mths Tax. I do not collect the car until tomorrow afternoon but I will take some pics and post them on the site.

Cheers. ;)
