Omega General Help / Front tie rod
« on: 15 January 2020, 19:08:16 »
Anyone removed one of these recently : https://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/VAUXHALL_OMEGA_CENTRE_STEERING_TIE_ROD_-_90510648N.html

Still having steering issues and noticed when I replaced my idler arm the ball joint in the centre tie rod had very little (if any) movement. With the nut on and a spanner it would move a tad but only a tad couple of mm maybe just wondered if it is normal for them to be pretty tight b*****ds.

Hello and good morning Omegians.

Had a go at moving the rear tie rod adjusters with no luck so thought best to remove and throw in a tank of diesel for a day or two and use the vice to free them up.
Ball joints all look good so dont want to wreck the rubbers removing them with the pickle fork, which I hardly ever use anyway as a good whack with a lump hammer mostly pops them out.
However this one is hard to get a swing at, so I was thinking of purchasing one of the myriad of ball joint removal tools available has anyone found one particularly suitable for the rear tie rods that does not damage the boots. Or maybe another method.

Omega General Help / Wandering Omega
« on: 01 October 2019, 21:30:51 »
Okay so wishbones all sorted but the battle-star Omega still wanders from one side of the road to the other it follows every camber change in the road and out in the fens we have plenty of them.
Had a good inspection of the idler arms and the rest of the joints but they all seem good with no play.
There is a slight bit of noise coming from the top of the suspension leg when you move the wheels it is the same both sides and no play as far as I can tell.
Could it be something in the actual steering column or box?
Scratching my head wondering what to replace next :-\

Omega General Help / Access to Wishbone bolt drivers side.
« on: 23 September 2019, 11:14:52 »
Hello comrades
Got my wishbones on order so decided to start the job so I am ready to fit when they arrive.
Passenger side all removed with the only problem being the hid sensor which was tough to remove mainly because I did not have a star spanner. Solution I found that a small ring spanner did the job really easily  :y
Drivers side is more complicated because I have no line of sight on the bolt going through the chassis into the engine bay? Looks like I am going to have to remove the coolant tank and the auto transmission pipes and maybe the air box to get at it. I have removed the nut with lots of fiddling but can not even see or feel the bolt head in the hole in chassis.
The bolt is still through the hole so it has not dropped into the sub-frame but I do not want to push it out with out being able to at least feel were it is.
Any suggestions or is it best to remove as much as possible to be able to see it.
I am without a helper at the moment but later today I will get someone to turn it from below while I try and locate it with my fat fingers which are not the best fit in small holes ???

Omega General Help / Auto Box Park
« on: 15 September 2019, 16:36:33 »
Hello all with my Omega Auto box in park the car still rolls forward surely the gearbox should lock it up.
I looked in the owners handbook and it says the front wheels should lock when in park, they must surely mean the back wheels?
Either way mine is not working hence why I did the handbrake adjustment.
Is this normal?

Omega General Help / Oil Leak front of car temp of engine?
« on: 13 September 2019, 16:31:38 »
Hello fellow comfort seekers just been for a relaxing spin in the new (to me) Omega 2.2 16v it seems to run pretty well. Gearbox is silky smooth (auto) and brakes are incredible (my other car is a ford Puma which go forwards very nicely but stopping is another subject).
Couple of issues to start with I have already had some good help from the forum thanks everyone.
It is pulling to the left a little although it has been unused for several months so might just be a sticking caliper?
My main issue is an oil leak at the front of the car under the radiator/oil cooler so I presume it is coming from the oil cooler. If I look down at the oil cooler it appears to have oil around the two alloy pipes going into the top of the cooler? It has had a new radiator fitted so I wonder if the last owner who fitted it has leaned on a pipe and fractured a joint?
What do I need to look out for when removing the oil cooler is it a fairly straightforward item to remove?
Looking through the forum I have seen mention of water and oil mixing from the cooler and radiator are the two connected somehow? seems odd if they are but what do I know.
My Omega is a 2003 model do haynes supply a manual or do we make do with the older version?
Thanks for your time comrades.
P.S how accurate is the real time MPG readout as it is showing some pretty good figures?
PPS The temp gauge stayed within the normal range yet the engine did seem pretty hot when I got home it also heats up to normal temp really quickly does this sound normal or are they a cool running engine normally.

Omega General Help / Exhaust?
« on: 08 September 2019, 17:47:34 »
Hello again exhaust is a little worse than I thought on my new Omega.
It will probably repair for now but I have just spotted this on Ebay and wondered if anyone had used the company before seems pretty cheap

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Vauxhall-Omega-B-2-2-16V-Saloon-Silencer-Exhaust-System-387/251165535754?hash=item3a7aa1ee0a:g:2OMAAOSwUchaIA4f

Any other recomendations for 2.2 16v exhaust suppliers that are cheapish.
Thanks

Omega General Help / Ticking Tocking noise lol
« on: 07 September 2019, 12:26:06 »
Hello fellow Omega comrades fixed my boot problem with Andy B advice thanks Andy just wondering what the Ticking noise is when I enter the vehicle before I put the key in the ignition it is making a loud ticking noise coming from behind the dash?
It stops once I turn the ignition key and only returns when I go back to the car after a while sitting locked?
My initial feeling is it is part of the alarm immobiliser system? :y

Newbie Welcome Area / Noob Omega Owner
« on: 05 September 2019, 20:49:18 »
Just got a 2002 2.2 cdx Auto petrol omega seems a nice comfy barge, my commuter vehicle is a Suzuki Alto so feels like a spacestation compared to the alto. Sadly it does not do 60mpg so it wont be used as much as the Alto.
Radio not working at the moment.
Glove box is jammed shut with the lock missing?
Exhaust has a slight blow at the joint but is fairly new by the look of it so probably just needs refitting..
Front shocks or some part of the front suspension seems a little tired so that will probably be a job on the list.
It is Silver and the body is pretty good for the age underneath looks pretty good to although I have not had a good root around under her skirts yet :D
Got it mainly for towing my small sailing dinghy and to remind me of my halcyon years when vauxhall had models such as the victor and vx490 in fact it drives much like an old Victor wafting along.
Interior is really good condition considering it has done 143,000 miles.
