Heater only works on max
« on: 25 September 2018, 06:43:24 »

Hi, i have a problem with heater i think. It only starts to produse heat when the temperature is turned on max. That started to happen when i reseted servos on my climate control. On max temperature works fine but it does nothing when i put climate control on 28 or 26 degrease. I have no idea what it could be.

Thanks Ahac

Do you mean that
a) fan does not blow anything if temp not turned to max or
b) fan blows only cold air if temp not turned to max

If case (a) I just tested in my 2001 equipped wit Auto Clima that if fan put manually to lowest speed it start to really blow only when temp turned to max and goes almost totally off when turned to 28 26 etc. Check the manual fan positions and/or press "Auto Button" as well if you have Auto Clima.

The heater matrix is blocked.
You might make it a bit better by flushing it - there's a guide - but it's probably best to replace the part. Which is cheap to buy(about 20 Euros) but an unpleasant job to do.

Check the climate's sampling fan is still working. Generally robust on FL models, but not so much on PFL ones.

Found old discussion about cabin temp sensing, never heard about it. How does it really work?

Hello,

You can also try to reset climatronic (I have similar problem and it worked).

Reset procedure:
- ignition on
- fan speed low (so you can hear flaps moving)
- press both Auto + Off for ~5sec

In my case after reset heating started to show also on other temp settings.

Is there a forum guide to changing the matrix? I cannot see one, and Haynes gives it 4 spanners.

???
There are two...

The cheat one works well if you're careful and apply some thought to what you are doing. With care, it doesn't show but get it wrong and you will have a six inch square hole by your left knee.

The official approach is the only way if you're in any way unsure of the cheat method. It's four spanners because you remove the dashboard, not because it's particularly difficult.  :y

Cheat one pretty easy if steering wheel in left side, guess you drive in right side in Slovenia, but how this can be a matrix case if blowing hot on max ? When mine was blocked I did not get hot in any position.

I have guides for flushing the matrix, and changing the fan. I can't find a matrix replacement guide.

Hi, thanks for help :) i think heater maitrix is fine because when it is on max it blows hot air and it gets too hot in the car. and then i turn it down to 28 and it totaly stops blowing any kind of warm air. Sometimes like magic works fine :) could it be some kind of climate control problem? Some sensor problem or something electrical?

Thx
