CD500 Navigation System in my Insignia.
« on: 22 September 2014, 16:35:22 »

My Navi system has a facility in the menus to set vehicle parameters.

i.e. Trailer attached, then the options to set - None : Small or Large.

Doesn't seem to work, dealer (surprise, surprise) hasn't got a clue!

So I contacted the Map supplier, here is their response.

Thank you for inquiring about HERE Maps.

Your navigation system and the map update is not designed for caravan's or trailor criteria. It is stictly for car navigation and does not take the height, weight and width of your caravan in to consideration. Unforutnately such a map update is not available for your navigation system.

Should you require additional information, please send us your feedback by replying to this email .

With kind regards,

Question, one of the reasons I bought the car with this particular Nav. was because of this feature.

Why is the feature there if it doesn't work?

Where do I go from here?

If the requirement was a specific feature which formed part of the sale..ie the contract of sale..and following your investigation you have identified that this specific requirement/feature isnt as described you have a claim under the Sale Of Goods Act as the item as specified is not "fit for purpose."

You will need to contact the original seller and advise them they have a legal responsibility to either correct the defect as it was an express condition of the sale which both buyer and seller were aware of and formed part of the contract of sale ,or supply you with an alternative that meets those requirments  :y

Still worth a go as it isnt a you expected and agreed when you bought it, and maybe the argument would be you havent had the opportunity to use that feature until recently

Mainly, sites I've visited have been near to main routes, it wasn't until I recently went to Cornwall the problem highlighted itself!

Where do I go from here?

In 400 yards please turn left.  ;)

Looks like it works on the CD600 upwards so the interface must be common but not all of the functions work on all models.  :-\
Doesn't help you though does it.  :(

I'm guessing the data isn't on the digital maps, that would be provided by Teleatlas or Navteq.

AA - go back to old fashioned technology. How did you manage before ;)

Decided to pursue this further.

Yesterday morning I emailed Vx customer care about the problem.

Yesterday afternoon, I had a phone call from them, saying they would investigate this further, as the facility should work.

They are going to get their Tech. Dept. onto it, and will phone me back on Monday.

Surprised at the quick response, but can't knock it.

Isn't there a facility on Tomtom for size if Vehichle? Lorries etc have a differant route option to cars iirc. So I presume pikeys would follow that info on the map. No?

So I'd guess the info is on the maps, it's just accessing it.

Here maps is nokia(windows)
As for weight and heights on a sat nav that cost extra. Standalone device's from £200+.

Why do you need that facility when towing a pikey house, just buy a bridge height map,and common sense,..

Your missing the point, the facility is supposed to be there, so why shouldn't I have it?
