Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery going flat, clock?
« on: 28 July 2020, 00:17:55 »
I have two identical cars, both sat for the same amount of time, the other car started instantly, when touching the - lead on the battery, I can hear a clicking noise, It sounds like a relay, the noise is coming from the left glove box, I will investigate when I have time

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Battery going flat, clock?
« on: 27 July 2020, 17:39:49 »
Hi All, After coming to start my 1996 2.5d Omega after it had stood for a couple of months, the battery was absolutely stone dead, after fitting a new battery, I fitted the + lead first, then tried touching the -lead onto the - terminal, as expected, I had sparks, after a little investigation, (i had help) when I got my dad to touch the battery lead onto the - terminal, I found the clock illuminating without the key in the ignition, has anybody had this? or is it a common fault? I haven't done anything else, I thought I would ask first, Is the fault the clock or maybe a relay?

Have left the battery with the - lead off
Cheers Dave

Cheers For that, this has the BMW  2.5 turbo diesel in it, my dad had a problem with a new Sierra back in the day, the push on connector on the solenoid was at fault, it was changed for a terminal and a nut and washer, as the solenoid had an m6 thread, which was very handy

Hi Guys, I have a very intermittent fault, today then 6 months ago, when I went to start the car, nothing, then after 2-3 tries, starter engaged and started right up, checked the cables-wires on the starter, all tight and clean, anyone else had this or know why maybe? I wouldn't like it to let me down one day

Hi Guys
The car belongs to my dad, he doesn't have a computer, this is why I asked for him, found the fault this morning for him, 1 20amp fuse had blown, no idea what the body shop did to blow the fuse, sorted now, thanks for the advice

Hi Had my car at a paint shop, rear bumper resprayed, went for the car, dash and heater dead, lights-indicators etc working fine, the guy at the body shop had been using something to stop the boot light coming on, he told me it had been a problem keeping the light off all the time, I take it whatever he was using was allowing the light to come on, he was replacing the (piece of wood) or whatever he used, when the light came on, so has this caused a fault?

New battery as stated, just had a look and the ashtray wasn't fully closed, I noticed when I slowly closed it, I heard a clicking noise, after removing it, I found a microswitch for the light, the switch is also wired into the cigarette lighter, both disconnected, also disconnected the radio, checked the battery volts, 12.49, after running to check if it was charging, only got 12.69volts, removed the earth lead, checking closely, I touched the earth lead onto the battery terminal, found it was slightly sparking, so something is pulling a little power

Will check the heater plug relay tomorrow

Thanks for the help

Hi Guys, Have a 96 2.5d, the car has started totally draining the battery, it isn't used that much, I have owned this car for several years and has been no trouble until now, first noticed this problem after coming to it nad had no ignition lights, fitted a good quality battery, three weeks later dead battery again, have started leaving the earth lead off, when I leave the car

    Getting annoying, any common problems?
