Electric windows drivers side
« on: 23 December 2019, 14:51:02 »

I am back again, thanks for your help in the past, very much appreciated.. Now the windows refuse to open on the drivers side (both front and back) I had to have a replacement lock on the drivers door last winter the door being frozen and my brute force pulling it open damaged the shutting process, butI dont think that has anything to do with this, I consulted the handbook and managed to use the key to shut the window but they refuse to open   Checked the fuse and it look OK very thick wire, any ideas anyone? thanks for reading this     MF

If the window(s) worked when shutting it with the help of the key the motors and mechanism is probably OK. I would suspect the switches. Do the rear window work when operated with the switch in the rear door? You dont mention the age of your Omega but in my experience the pre facelift with switches in the centre console do occasionaly require the switches to be taken apart and cleaned. Especially in cars that are smoked in as the switches lives very close to the ashtray. But i have never experienced that two windows stopped working. Usually its one. And usually it will work in one direction. Both rear windows share one fuse, and both front share another fuse.
Switches or wiring to switches would be my guess.

It helps to take the switches apart and clean the contacts with alcohol on a cotton wool bud, aftershave will suffice !

What year, because the car you describe doesn't exist...

If it's a Carlton/Omega A then all the information may be different  :-X

In which case, from the symptoms, the switch needs replacing.

Strip, clean, refit switch.

Or new/replacement switch.

Unlikely to be the wiring as the other side all work ;)

Thanks for all your help, have got the switch mech. out of the door and had a look.   The passenger side windows work OK but when I switch the switch for drivers side the little red light stays on and the driver side windows wont work so i assume the switch from passenger side to drivers side switch is faulty, can I get a replacement?

Surely the switch for drivers side/passenger side is for the door mirrors not the windows is it not? The only other one[apart from the four window switches is to lock out the rear door switches as a safety feature so rear seat passengers[kids etc]can't open the windows.

Thanks for your reply, I accept the switch is for the mirrors, but I cannot change the drivers side,.   I agree the other switch is for locking the rear mirrors.... It seems there is fault on the drivers side, neither windows can be opened by using the rear door controls. does this need to into a garage to sort out?
