Dog Licenses
« on: 19 August 2016, 10:31:48 »

Yet another child killed/injured by a dog, probably another chav dog.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-37129134

It's partly the dog breed itself, but overall its must be the owners responsibility, and it is the owner that chooses the dog breed to have. I know that the old dog license was largely ignored and hard to enforce, but at least it was a legal requirement and provided a reason for investigating a dog owner. People used to moan about the tiny cost, but if you can afford to keep and feed a dog, the old license fee was nothing, about £10 if I remember correctly.

So another little one gone in a quite unpleasant manner due to some halfwit :'(  It's not dogs that need controlling, it's owners  >:(

I don't see any mention of the breed, but leaving a child or a dog unsupervised is irresponsible, let alone both together. :(

"It's dreadful news, it really is. I've had dogs all my life and I don't think you can ever trust a dog 100% with any child."

Yeah cos humans have a much better record of not abusing children.  Silly bitch.  >:(

I've never owned a dog but I've met plenty of dogs who would die before they let anything happen to their family's child.

I've had Boxers for over 30 years marvelous breed  excellent with kids but I would never leave a child unattended with a dog no matter how much I trusted it . Common sense should always come to the fore where children are concerned, but unfortunately some people do not possess any. As for licences  I doubt if it would make the slightest difference.

I have owned a dog for over 60 years one way and another...you are correct you cant trust any dog 100%...I dont think license  is the way to go as certain owners would not comply and also how could you police it,,,I believe that if you are out in public places then your dog should by law be on a lead and wear some type of muzzle to take away the risk of it biting any one or another dog...The thing that realy hisses me of is that when walking my dog on a lead in the park there are inconsiderate stupid dog owners with their dogs off lead.who then cause more problems to people..children..and other dog owners by causing stress by way of their dog upsetting every one by running wild and barking and sometimes fighting with innocent dogs....so bring in the law..all dogs while out in public must wear a muzzle and be on a lead that way they will be under proper control.. ???

Agree with the previous comment, what really annoys me are the owners who don't even take a lead when walking their dogs .

In the States you have to keep your dog on a leash unless you go to a special 'Doggy Park' where they can run free and there are even fake fire hydrants for the little mutts to pee on as well!  :D

I kid you not!  ;D

Police that....Easy.....to begin with if a dog is seen off a lead then the dog warden would shove it in his van and take it away and wait until the owner comes to collect it..and then serve the fine on them,,,In bedfordshire they are introducing park rangers to watch over the parks with the local council to combat just that....But the most obvious way is.....If a dog is off lead then you are nicked,,,,,where as if you bring back a license  how do you know if the owner has one or not,,,,that is how you would for want of a better word..police that,,, ::) ::)

Keep them on a lead when out in public.

Mine is on a lead at all times when outdoors and i have had problems with other dogs off a lead when in a park.

You cannot trust any dog big or small.

If a dog must always be kept on a lead in public, how do you exercise a Greyhound or Lurcher? ???

They need about 10 minutes of intense running at up to 45mph. Two together will normally chase each other in big figure of 8 circles and after 10 minutes they have had enough and it's time to go home.

The problem is that there tends to be an attempt to have a "one size fits all" approach to dogs. Almost every time there is a dog disaster, the real cause is usually the owners, their choice of dog, and their sheer stupidity. In this case the dog was an American Bulldog. Not exactly the type of dog that gets put onto toilet rolls.

My dogs always have at least an hour off the lead walks every day,  I am fortunate enough to live in area where you can walk for miles without seeing another soul, but if I do see anyone my dogs are placed on their leads as I said earlier all you need is commonsense, they cannot be accused of being out of control , pestering other dogs or people it's not rocket science.

An incredibly sight the first time I saw it, too - a friend has a rescue greyhound and asked if I'd ever seen one run (noting they can hit top speed in three strides).. so we went out to his "garden" (field, to you and me!). He went one side, I was the other.. by heck that dog got over to him and back to me quick!

I'd love one, I think they are beautiful. Sadly Louise thinks they're ugly  :'( :'( :'(
