Excellent, a starting point. Thank you.
I see you have a slush box, did they make as many with manual boxes? Always preferred a manual I have.
How would you compare load space with the Carlton.... same same or slightly less? (more trim etc)
Chipped eh? Tell me more
Jon

I don't claim any expertise in this area, had mine done by Jeremy Fearn in Derbyshire about three years ago, (and paid too much!). It claims to bring the performance back up to BMW spec. Certainly improves it no-end. However, with the original AR25 auto box, the experts here say it will only last a short time chipped as the box can't handle the extra torque. (My AR25 has done 25000, and appears to have created some kind of record). I would not even consider a manual, and can't comment on availability. I have sourced the stronger AR35 auto box for if/when mine quits. Further, many here suggest better mpg also when chipped, I can't say that in my case, but still well worth doing for the extra poke. Can't comment on load space vis-a-vis Carlton, never had one, but lots in this.

There are many posts on here on these issues, which you will find with diligent searching.

Good Hunting ;) 8-) :y

PS I'm sure that you can get better advice on chipping here if you post, including good prices.

Welcome to OOF.

All I can say is that my '99 BMW CDX td Estate has been superb. I have owned it for over ten years, and I feel no urge to change. Every new car I have driven to compare has not been as good in most respects. OK, even though chipped, it is not a sports car, but it feels solid, and can be driven for long distances without fatigue (driver or car). If you get a good one you will not be disappointed.

Good Luck :y :y :y

Hi Tim, welcome. Your experience mirrors mine, I have had my 99 Estate for 10 years, also ex-VX management, with, IIRC 7k on the clock. Also been a brilliant car, but fortunately (for car retention!) kids are long gone.

Cheers
