Is the current Disco Sport family...

A rebodied Ford Edge? :-\

It would seem that the 2.0t petrol engine/drivetrain is pure Ford...

Eh, all current JLR 4 pots are Ingenium engines, the Ford unit got booted some years ago (3-4 or so)

Gearbox is a 9 speed auto (not Ford) or manual (again not Ford).

The D8 platform (E-Pace, Disco Sport and Evoque) has a distant connection to a Ford chassis but, its been massively changed and improved (started about 10 years ago and is now unrecognisable as).

Reason for asking was that someone on YT has just bought one for his Mrs and was reviewing it, and specifically pointed out all the Ford bits as a reason to buy it as it meant that parts would be cheaply and widely available...

I didn't catch the age of it, but whilst it looked new, it could have been an early one :-\

I recall being shown the prototype disco sport when I started at Jaguar Landrover, something about the rear suspension set up was " revolutionary"  according to the engineers as it had no strut towers impeding the cabin, doubt it's a carry over due to this

The only revolutionary aspect is that they bothered to put the struts within the wheel well dimensions rather than in the boot ;D

Many other changes to, the Ford Platform has a number of design issues around the front end related to the power train fixings, improved on D8 and all but eliminated on the new Evoque.

Which means geo changes and differing arms (cast in this case), not easy to do  :y
