I can do without this shit ............
« on: 22 May 2018, 18:42:35 »

Left the lad to stick one of the front wheels on while I popped in for a dump  ::)
Came outside 10 minutes later to find him using a impact gun to start and tighten the wheel bolts  >:(
Now I have 3 which are about 400Nm and 2 which he had started cross threaded and carried on banging away with the gun until they are in  >:(

Can I take it that the bolts will strip before the hub ?

Also if I can get them out, what size tap and die do I need to see if I can save the day ?

That's what they are. But it's a non-perfered size so you'll probably have to order a tap.

If it's any consolation my lad did exactly the same thing on his car despite me telling him not to  >:(

IF I need it, how quick could you get it in the post Al ?

I'd rather not if I can get away with it because knowing me (just like the other side I did a couple of years ago) i'll smash the abs sensor too  :'(

What's that mean Nick ?

Metric threads are normally the coarse pitch, which would be 1.75mm for an M12 fastener. For some reason cars are littered with M12x1.5 threads, which most suppliers have to order in. That includes nuts, bolts, taps and dies.

Despite having a bucket full of various taps & dies, I'd to borrow the metric fine from a local garage to sort  out my lads mess.

Question about these tap and dies .............. I have both a tap and die in M12 x 1.75.

You lot say the omega is a M12 x 1.5 ?

What / where is the 0.25 difference ?
Is it the gap between the threads ?

Yes. The 1.5 is the distance between two thread crests, measured in mm. Your tap and die are 1.75 because that is the usual M12 pitch.
