V6 front brakes
« on: 26 January 2009, 13:49:06 »

Woohoo the2.2 Gls is gone. ;D
Got a lovely 98 v6 estate instead.
Can anyone tell me why the onboard computer keeps giving a check for the front brakes??
The garage stated the front brakes were done just before they got it?
Could it be a connection not put back??
Or does the computer need telling theyve been replaced??
Any help is much appreciated.
Regards

The pad wear sensor will be broken or in need of replacement.  About £8 or so and straightforward to fit, only needing the removal of the wheel....

I have a similar problem and I think my pads need doing too. What's the part number for the pads with sensor capability so I can check prices?

To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.

Mine (2000 Elite Auto) has sensors on both front wheels.  Beware that just replacing them (16.75 incl VAT a pair to retail) may not help if you have a ridge of rust round the periphery of the disk - the new ones may wear down in a very short time.
HTH

PS I put new disks on mine a couple of days ago - it needed them.  Price for disks 186GBP, price for disks and pads (check you get the pads as they are not necessarily in the box) 115GBP (even less for "Trade club").  Go figure.

You're having a bobby....

Front Disc/Pad axle set
All models exc. 2.0 to '97 93175466 £100.00 £82.55 £72.83
2.0 to '97 93175467 £102.00 £84.20 £72.83

(first price retail, then trade, then TC, all ex VAT)

Doesn't make sense for discs alone to be so expensive!
