Saloon Boot gas struts with spoiler. Different Part No?
« on: 13 August 2020, 18:14:21 »

I'm adding a rear spoiler to my car and have also got to replace the Bootlid struts. I've changed them once with some apparently good condition ones (certainly felt fairly energetic off the car) but they are no better than the ones I threw away. I think I read on here that the Magnetti Marelli ones are good, whereas some of the slightly cheaper ones less so?

The other thing is does any one know if the struts are different on cars fitted with Bootlid spoilers. I'm quite surprised, the spoiler is heavier than I would have expected?

thanks.

That sounds like you've fitted second hand...

Why bother when you can buy new for less than £30...  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-2003-Vauxhall-Omega-Saloon-Tailgate-Boot-x2-Struts-Gas-Springs-Lifters-PAIR/140896500829?epid=1426725531&hash=item20ce15fc5d:g:PAwAAOSwdQFdndyu  :-X

Should be fine with the factory spoiler options, either Prodrive (Elite/MV6/Sport standard fit) or Irmscher.

However, if you've fitted an ironing board, then an unsupported bootlid is the price you pay :D

Thanks Doc,

Ordered- I'd not seen them quite as cheap as that.

The spoiler i've added is the standard Elite one, so not a ironing board, ski-slope affair.

I have three V6 saloons, all with a rear boot lid spoiler, and on all of them, the boot lid itself has to be assisted by hand to the raised position, but once fully open, stay there (although having said that, during the few windy days about a month ago, one did blow down, and and the latch smacked me between the shoulder blades which bloody hurt...this is the first time this has ever happened though).
To actually answer your question, the boot struts are the same part no irrespective of model - 90379054

Cheers JD

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.
I've ordered the Magnetti ones. If they maintain the boot open, that will be great.
