Personally I would purchase a trailer and fit a hitch (if you have not already one fitted) rather than have a mpg increasing, ugly, roof rack!

I have never noticed a miggy with one fitted. :-/

There was a post on here recently giving a link to a supplier of roof rack rails for omega saloon - try searching for roof rack.

mk2?

I have one for my estate.  But assuming yours is a saloon I think there was a thread recently where someone said they come up on ebay fairly often.  Have you tried Halfords etc?

something like this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-ROOF-BARS-RACK-FOR-Vauxhall-OMEGA-86_W0QQitemZ180262963805QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item180262963805&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

I think you will find these are for the mk3 carlton as its says 86>.

...and I think that is a Sierra in the picture!  But you are right, the old '86' Carlton's did have rain gulleys running along the sides of the roof to take a roof rack, unlike the Omega. ;)

yep. Halfords, thule(not sure spelling) not a roof rack, but bars. They clamp into the gutters, if you look along the lip above the doors they clamp on a little ledge bit, (youll see the moulding),  with the doors open, and the rubber seal of the door seals round it. They do ladder clamps as well. The mig roof i thought would not be long enough to get the ladder stable, but a bit of fiddling and it does a good job. Cant see how a trailer will carry a 3 story 3 stage ladder tbh. Oh and dont bother with the plastic end clips they just fall off. And be carefull mot to scratch your lovely looking roof, its easy done. Hope helps.

It  will if you have an extended chassis one as I once built,  ie. a ex-camping 6' x 4' trailer with an six foot extendable bar mounted underneath, with light board fitted onto it, which I pulled out (up to chain limiters I had built in) so that 12' long loads could be legally carried.  Designed and built it for moving a complete shed 50 miles, but it did for a boyfriends ladders etc. :y

wow, sounds like a small house. Tow bar, trailer, modifications and limited to 50 and 2 left lanes. For a ladder? Roof bars, cheapest less agro. Noisy tho, only down side.

But that means fitting a shin breaker and being limited to some snails pace type speed!  ;D
