Thank Baza,
After I listed my car as my daily VW I thought I might be kicked off the forum!

The Omega was my Dads car and he liked it so much that he didn't get rid of it when he was offered not very much in part x. My Ford Escort was written off sometime later and my mother persuaded him to give me the Omega.

I took the odometer up to around 130k, then major engine issue and it has been off the road since 2012.

Welcome!

The old tractors are becoming fewer now, as the world's suddenly decided that all diesels are evil. Because theyre an older gen of Diseasel you can run then on veg oil without serious issue, in whatever percentage you wish (20% from memory without heavily clogged fuel filter every 5 mins) also they're torquey, can be chipped to the bhp they were supposed to have in the first place (GM detuned them because...GM) also parts arent impossible because Omegas, old 5 series and P38(?) Range Rovers used the same engine. 50mpg at 50mph, and turbo whine, what's not to like?

...sold mine and got a V6  ;D :D ;D

Do it spending wise, keep an eye out for the quality parts at the right price, as costs mount up quick, use the forum and the expertise here, it can be done. Mine was off the road for 7 years and she's been a daily driver for nearly 40k more miles now, clocked over to 213k the other day. Can be done.  :y

Thanks. As you can probably tell I’m at a crossroads with the car so the advice is greatly received.
There is one elite V6 locally that is in good condition. Other than that I haven’t seen one for a while.
I will try to get some images on mine onto the gallery section of the forum.

The tech in the omega was so far ahead of its time - the radio/CD that would automatically increase volume to compensate for increasing engine noise with increasing speed etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about having a VW as a "daily",many members on here no longer own an Omega or have other cars for their "daily".I have two other cars which are used more than my Omega,a phase 1 Volvo V70 2.4 manual and a MkII Volvo 960 auto saloon. What is wrong with your TD engine?

Lovely cars, I ran mine for 19 years. Surprised to hear of major engine problems, as with regular (3k) oil changes, and coolant service, the BMW engines were bullet proof. :-\

Yep, mine was chipped, but if your engine turns out to be OK, and you do chip it, you will need an AR35 box, as the AR25 will not take the extra poke. GM probably detuned them so that they could save tuppence on the box. (Contact TB, site admin who keeps changing his f****g name and I cant remember his latest, for chip info.) :y

Thanks all. Will try to answer all questions:

Engine
The engine had been consuming some oil for a while so I was dutifully topping up. It had a service and oil leak addressed (new very little about cars at the time so don’t know exactly what was done) about 2 weeks prior to the issue. I was driving back from the Cotswalds between Christmas and New year 2012 and there was a major issue - all oil gone. Unsure if it dumped the oil somehow or oil pump failure. The local garage (same one that had done the service) said that the engine would need to come out for rebuild which effectively wrote the car off. There was space at my parents house at the time very near the garage so they left it there. I couldn’t bare to scrap the car so there it stayed (under a cover) but it has suffered a bit in the weather.

Other cars
I have a classic muscle car which I have restored in my garage with a lot of help from a friend who really knows his muscle cars inside out.
The VW is the old bulletproof 1.9GT TDI

Location
I live just outside Bridgend.

Not a million miles away. Had a very good friend in Treorchy when younger. Also worked in Llantrisant on and off. Now work in Cardiff. The Omega is now on my brothers drive in Swansea.
