CD changer getting worse about skipping
« on: 07 March 2007, 18:35:06 »

99 w/ 152K, so CD changer has been used a lot.  It is getting worse about randomly skipping, although this may be more on CDR's than original CDs.  What about plugging in an iPod instead?  Would that be cheaper than a new CD changer?  (I currently use the iPod on a tape adapter which works well.)  I do like using the CD changer for short trips since radio reception is not good around here, and the iPod is a pain for short trips.

Try a different brand of CDRs, I had issues with some cheapo no brand stuff in the car, so I changed to a different cheapo no brand, with better results.  Still occasionally does it, or sometimes just insists a disc isn't there (requiring eject to get it to rescan for it), but not often...

Try a lense cleaner....if you have one.....

It might be that the pick-up is getting tired (although these seem to last very well...)

I had exactly this problem - the unit never skipped, but would not recognise my CD-R discs.  There were not cheap brands but Verbatim.

I tried the lense cleaner several times but this did not cure the problem.

In the end, I got so fed up, I installed a complete Pioneer set up.

I've had problems with Tesco's CDRs, they are sh*te in the Omega changers....

Sometimes it would take 5 mins to pick up a CD..

Any others are OK for me though...

if you are copying to cdr's on your own computer. check how fast it is recording at. most cheap discs are between 4-12x speed. if your pc is copying at faster it may cause it to skip
