Blocked drain

Evening everyone, I tried to clean out the drain points in the engine bay drivers side was easy  :)  Passenger side what a pig to get at problem is now I have pushed the grommet though the hole it should be in, at least the water drains away now :) question is what are the consequences of the grommet not being in place . I will try to get hold of the grommet and pull it back up but not sure how to get it back in as my arms are too big to allow me to reach that far down  >:( my arm is red raw from trying to reach it earlier

Use the "Up and Under" methold. Put the steering on full lock to the offside, behind the wheel you will see the end of the rubber shute you have been trying to reach from above. Just stick your finger in and loosen out all the mud and other debris. Be careful when the blockage is released that you dont get an armful of cold dirty stagnant water.

EDIT If the grommet is now out, push it back in from below access as above.

I've a feeling this may be dependent on the age/model of the car.  Mine was not readily accessible from within the wheel arch - it appears to drain within the engine compartment, which is a lot more difficult to get at.  I poked from above in the end...

98 and earlier drain into wheelarch, 99 and later drain in to engine bay.

My 94 drained to engine bay through a very obscurely shaped grommet/tube.   Very hard to poke through - used a length of flex in the end (suggested on here I think)

Got in from work and had another look at the drian hole where the grommet fits I have now managed to pull the whole thing right out  :o mine is march 98 and the tube sticks out towards the wheel. It was full of crap just as it came out of the end of the tube  ;) I have cleaned it all out now and have to work out how to refit it looks like it will be wheel off and try it from underneath. Question is would it hurt anything if it is not refitted if it turns out to be a pain to get back in  :)

I am really pleased I have managed to refit the grommet tube thingy back in  :) I tried to do it from above but no luck arms just a bit too short and chunky to reach :( looking at it I decided to remove the bonnet alarm switch and bracket and the pollen filter. This just about allowed me to reach down and push the grommet back in place with the help of long nose pliers and silicone spray bit of a struggle but it went back in. Just one thing I would advise to any one who is going to check theres (98 model) is to look behind the wheel you shoud be able to see the exit of the tube this is where mine was actually blocked with bits of twigs etc hope this will help someone  ;)
