1980's 90's carphone
« on: 18 August 2013, 22:23:57 »

I'm restoring my 1981 phase 1 BMW 635 and one item I have had no success in finding is a good beige coloured lower dash section but beige ( or parchment )  was a rare colour of interior on the phase 1 and so far a worldwide search ( seriously )  has turned up nothing .
I want to replace it due to the fact that way back the car has had an early carphone fitted and four holes have been drilled to mount the handset cradle .
It's occured to me that if I can't source the section or until I do a period handset and cradle fitted would look good even though it was for show only .
I'm looking for a 80's or 90's phone like this , has anyone got an old one, with cradle , in the loft or back of the garage somewhere ?
I'll buy it of course.

Ive got proper Motarola GSM kits, Handset, Unit and Hands Free Kits kicking around some where from that decade. Believe it or not they fetch good money now. ;)

I seem to remember that a while back, someone on the ABS forum had a panel repaired because of the same. The repair was virtually invisible.

spares car have what you are looking for?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-635-csi-spare-or-repair-/261262530883?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cd475d943
Thanks for that but that's a phase 2 car ( e28 chassis ) and the interior is Pearl beige which is actually a long way from parchment .
Just to clarify things , I'm not actually looking for an operational carphone just the cradle and handset . I had and used those phones in the day , better off with one in your pocket ....... ;)

Got a couple installed in our cars - Motorola M8989 and a Motorola 2700. work very nicely with a max 8 Watt power off the beaten track.
