General Car Chat / Re: Spin on filter adaptor cost

I paid less than a tenner for mine a couple of weeks ago (a genuine part bought from Autovaux). The monies saved by using spin-on oil filters makes it a worthwhile investment.

Your testing station can print you one if you ask upon completion of a test. Please note ASK. Its all to do with saving money, and being grrreen >:( But mot probably still go up in price  :-X

Ah yes, that's true. I was thinking along the lines of when someone goes to buy a new car and needs to check its MOT status before parting with his or her hard-earned. Not that the 'new' MOT certificate is much proof of anything anyway - I don't think there's ever been a document that's so easy to forge.

General Car Chat / No more paper MOT certificates

This might not be news to you, but I've been told that the DVLA are no longer issuing paper MOT certificates. Apparently, this is part of its plan to electronically store all information relating to a car (see: road tax!). I know that you can see a car's entire MOT history online anyway, but it would now seem that visiting the DVLA website will be the only way to check the current MOT status of a vehicle.

I learned of this change when I put a new reg plate on my Rolls-Royce, only for the V5C to be returned without an updated MOT certificate. I was told that one wouldn't be forthcoming, but only when I called to query the lack of documentation landing on my doorstep. I don't recall seeing this change being 'advertised' anywhere.

It should be taxed by present owner just drive it home and tax it the next day. Make sure you insure it first.

When you tax it the present owner will get back his tax

This is incorrect.

Unfortunately, road tax can no longer be passed on with the sale of a car. The car's new owner needs to tax it before hitting the road. Tax is refunded to the car's previous owner when he or she requests cancellation.

Easy enough to get fresh tax by firing up the DVLA website on your phone/tablet/computer and punching in the car's particulars.

Hey Dan

Is it you that's changed your name - last issue of TV got me a bit confused? :-\

Matthew

?

Dan White (editor?) says in the Last TV that he's getting used to the new name - wondered if that was you?

Matthew

No mate, Dan White and Dan Furr are two completely seperate people.  And its PV now lol

As opposed to partially separate people?!  :P ;D  :D

Aye, same mag, different Dans.  :y

I stripped my MV6's engine, dismantled its cylinder heads, gave its manual gearbox a third layer of paint... The nuts and bolts are coming together nicely!

As you may or many not be aware, Total Vauxhall has recently been reborn as 'Performance Vauxhall' magazine. The first-ever issue of the new title is sitting on newsstands right now, and it includes the latest #irmscherMV6 project update. Click here to download/subscribe etc.: http://is.gd/TlASEF  :y

Be interested to see how you get on with the Falkens in that size.

I'll be sure to keep you posted. The wheels are currently being stripped, dipped, blasted and powdercoated at the refurbishers. I can't wait to see the end results :)

Pre face lift doesn't count, as, obviously, you need the superior face lift. ;)

Quite. That's of no help to the Cavalier Turbo 4x4 owner with a Griffin-friendly feline, though! Textured black plastic fail!

It won't scratch a car.

Perhaps not through to bare metal(!), but a cat will happily slide down your bonnet, roof etc. and leave scratch/claw marks in the lacquer. Also, if you've got a PFL Omega, a cat is more than capable of leaving claw marks in the textured black plastics as it climbs/jumps up onto the car.
