Anyone watch Guy Martin in the new series of Speed this evening?

Him & his mate were attempting to beat the world record for a tandem, max miles in 24 hours ...... record set in 1990 by 2 Yanks of just over 500 miles (503?) in 24 hours.
Well worth a watch.  :y :y

General Discussion Area / more telly dross
« on: 11 October 2014, 23:20:32 »
I see there are telly ads for yet another series of Allan Sugar wanna be's. Just how many series of these types of progs do we have to be subjected to before the tv bosses think we've had enough? If these Sugar wanna be's had the business acumen to succeed in whatever ...... WTF do they need to be creep & crawl on telly? They'd have just done .......surely!  :-\ :-\

General Car Chat / Insurers!
« on: 03 October 2014, 11:35:11 »
Technically SWMBO has been driving without insurance since she got the car last Christmas. I've just been looking on line re renewing insurance & just noticed that the registration number on the certificate is wrong. Someone had mistaken a T for a Y  ??? You'd have thought that it was picked up when I phoned them last May after receiving a letter from MID to say that her car wasn't insured ...... but you might say I could have checked too  :-X

General Car Chat / low oil level sensor
« on: 25 September 2014, 16:08:28 »
Does anyone know ... (Mark  ::)) for certain that changing the low oil level sensor is a straight forward job on my Merc R320? The sensor itself is about £40, but when asking generally about it at Mercedes, they want about £300 to change it!  :o :o :o

Their EPC isn't very clear and the lad on the parts wasn't allowed to look on their version of TIS to give me the heads up

General Discussion Area / HMRC
« on: 20 September 2014, 21:28:01 »
Earlier this year HJ Heinz changed its name slightly (due to Warren Buffet effectively buying us out), but it was enough for HMRC to think that we'd all changed employers and our wonderful Pay Office it would seem was oblivious to any information that they might have told them. So, the other day, a letter from HMRC landed on  the doormat to tell me that I was entitled to a rebate  :y however ...... earlier in the year when my P60 arrived, I'd noticed that the figure in the red box ie the amount they said I would use if completing a tax return was way less than my total for the year. So I phoned the HMRC to ask if an error might have been made. He looked at various figures & agreed that an error had been made & that their estimate for my tax rebate was wrong.

Today a sizeable cheque arrived.

So, knowing you'd already phoned the tax office & kinda know it's a mistake, would you ..............
bank the cheque & wait for them to ask for the money back ...... it'd pay my car insurance next month very nicely  ;)
or put the cheque to one side
