General Car Chat / Re: mot history
« on: 22 June 2021, 21:23:03 »
been looking to buy a tidy looking berlingo but it has only a month mot left. i asked the vendor why he hasn,t tested it & he was rather vague with an answer. had a look at its mot history & on the 6th july it failed on various things. n/s drive shaft , wheel bearing , steering rack ball joints & both wiper. then on the same day it had another test & passed. But at a different test station than the original. ??? ???
The MoT checker doesn't give you the test address without putting in the V5 reference. A different test will have a different test number ;)

That list could realistically be done on the same day. A quick look at it would soon tell you if they were done or not... Like wise the mileage won't have changed much between the two tests. ;  the mileage was exactly the same , but why go to a different garage, usually the garage that failed it would check the work had been done & issue a pass. so why go & pay for another test .

If you are interested in it go and look. Doesn't much matter if it's on Ebay/Faceache/Craigslist or Amazon and it's in Bridgend.

Either look at it in person and make an appropriate offer, or bid what you are prepared to pay allowing for not inspecting it/seller ignorance/it's 259.73 miles away. :y

General Car Chat / ad blue tank
« on: 27 May 2021, 21:23:50 »
last week i had fun & games with the ad blue tank . urea & engine emission warning were on i took it it to the dealers for initially a diagnostic of which they told me would cost me £90.  i live a hour from the dealers so a courtesy car was provided. they rang me & told me the  ad blue tank / pump were at fault but they asked me to pay for 2 more hours for further examination. they phoned me later to tell me it was the pump. ( which is supplied with the tank ) however there is a manufacturers fault with pump & it would be replaced for free by DS, that was a relief as they cost about a grand.  the original pumps fitted had metal bits that urea rotted & now they have plastic components. all is well now , tested it by a trip from nth yorks to hampshire  :y :y

wife has had a message claiming somebody has tried to obtain a payment from her a/c with instruction to click on a link which appears to be a hsbc fraud team. if anybody gets this message the real banks website has a warning and to delete it.

I never answer calls on my mobile from numbers not known from the contacts list-if it's important they can send a text message instead.Always let the house phone ring to the answering machine then I can listen to any message they leave on that-if indeed they leave a message.

I go the other way, I try and keep them on the phone for as long as possible. I've even sat there telling them what I am doing with my computer for over 30 minutes, my computer wasn't even on. I play stupid and drag everything out for as long as possible.

Why? Well they could be ringing a relative of mine, a friend etc; The longer I can waste their time, the less time they have to harass people who will fall for this.
years ago an East Yorks window company would plague you trying to sell double glazing . in the end i made an evening appointment for a rep to come, they   stopped calling my number when they found out it was a no sale

I still buy them from time to time, although they are nearly £100 a pair now.
The quality is nothing like it used to be either. Not even sure any of them are made in the USA any more ?
no factories in mexico  turkey & belgium i think

in the early 60.s i went to sea , levis were widely worn by merchant seamen & to purchase a pair you would have probably had to go to a ships chandlers.
i have been trying to get  some genuine levi jeans & ebay is full of them saying that they are authentic but when i look at the sizes they r.e not.  Levis never made jeans in even sizes. 29, 31 waists & buy them a size big as they always shrank. guaranteed never to rip & you would get e little story book with each pair.  will may try ebay usa

dog stealing as all of us know is rife at the moment. a farmer near to where i live has had 3 working dogs taken. a chipped collar is the nearest one can get to tracking an animal along with micro chipping. apparently there is nothing to inject into an animal that allows something to trace a missing dog. i would of thought someone would have come up with something
since starting this thread my son rang me & as he were near to where i lived this morning he asked would i be at home if he called. anyway he told me of a neighbour that bought a puppy for £2,000 and when they took it to a vet to have it chipped etc it turned out to be already registered & was reported stolen. they had to give the pup up & loose their money.
