Title: Lyme Regis
Post by: Varche on 11 June 2019, 00:41:05
What a splendid seaside town. Spent a very enjoyable day till it rained.

Whilst the roads are scenic in Dorset and Somerset , i can see why you see cars with dings and dents.

Yes it is  :y

I usually visit there every year, you should try West Bay, just along the coast from there, lovely coastal port and
buy some locally caught fresh fish  :y

Yep, West Bay is worth a visit: fish and chips at outside tables, overlooking the harbour - yummee! :y :)

Yes, been to West Bay years ago in the 70’s.

From memory very nice.

Got lost last night in the rabbit warren of roads around Yeovil. Shan't miss that and meeting tractors on narrow lanes in heavy rain!

I shall playing golf at West Bay and Lyme Regis in 2 weeks time, as we have done for the last 19 years. We stay at Eype which is between the two, a delightful spot hidden off the main road. I can recommend Eypes Mouth Country Hotel, a 3* Hotel with 5* food. :y

Good. Bugga off and leave the roads to us locals. Far too many tourists pootling about at 40 holding us all up.

It's not a bad little place really.  :y

And yes you do have to watch out for unhinged locals barrelling through the lanes at daft speeds....  ::)

I stay at Highlands End Caravan park....that's up on the cliffs between Eype and West Bay.

I usually walk down the cliffs to West Bay and Eype….but I swear the cliffs get steeper every year on the way back up  ::) ;D

When you are at Eype, may I suggest that you visit Litton Cheney? Not a lot there, but very picturesque with a charming stream running alongside the road - also a Youth Hostel, if you need it!

I tend to use the bar and restaurant on site, means I can have a couple of beers without having to drive  :y

Lyme Regis is much like Bournemouth. A place where old people go to die. :)

Could be worse. Could go to Yeovil to die.  What a dump.

Tonight we are in Montreiul in Northern France.

Yep,Lyme Regis is a lovely place which in past used to visit with the children. :y

Sidmouth, just further along the coast into Devon, is also a small seaside town with character and lovely gardens, part looking over the sea, where you can have a lovely nap - once the children are older and not on the beach!! :D ;)
