Water seeping out bottom of front chassis Leg
« on: 03 June 2019, 07:24:01 »

Has anyone else noticed this, if you look at chassis leg just under front floor just before the floor strengthener, it looks like there is water seeping out behind the underseal, there appears to be either a join or access hole there but it looks sealed over, so instead of rainwater escaping it is being trapped but slowly seeping out. Quite worrying as this would be a potential rot trap, and we know we could do without anymore of them on an Omega! Not sure if it's water seeping down from bulkhead drain and sitting inside chassis leg or water from the road being trapped behind underseal. I did notice it when car had been sitting but it had rained so assuming it's leaking down inside the chassis leg.

I found a load of old sound deadening material / insulation up there in mine, which had got soaking wet.

If your air-con works could be condensation,as that drips. Also check the scuttle isn't full of water.

Scuttle was blocked but cleared it out a few months ago.

I get water running out out of the rectangular hole on the near side chassis leg, just by the curved section near the steering linkage.
I'm not sure where it enters - possibly from the drain from the front scuttle which runs onto the chassis on the near side by the bulkhead under the abs unit.
When it is dry, it must be worth spraying some antirust compound through the rectangular hole to at least reduce any corrosion or further corrosion as long as any escape for water is not blocked.

Are you sure that this is not the outlet hole from the scuttle drain .

No, the outlet for the scuttle drain is through the long nose grommet, which in just drops the water by the abs unit. To unblock the scuttle drain, I partly fill the scuttle and then squeeze the grommet (like milking a cow?? ;D ;D) and then my arm gets drenched by the sudden rush of water, which falls onto the top of the chassis rail by the bulkhead. The water isn't directly fed into the chassis rail though.

It does drain down through it adjacent to the bulkhead. Also the chassis rail is open at the front and has several holes along its upper edge so is clearly designed drain through.

Peel off the loose underseal and expect to spend a day on each leg cleaning and treating down to where it meets the floor. Don't forget the side next to the exhaust because that will be just as scabby.

Maybe it is running from the scuttle drain, it did seem wet when there was no rain as if water was trapped inside bottom section of leg and leaking out slowly.
