Foam on oil filler
« on: 07 April 2019, 07:47:06 »

Hi. New to group. Just bought a 53plate 2.6 v6 cdx. I was checcking oil and noticed some foam on oil filler cap. I  checked the dipstick and that was fine. Coolant level is also fine and no sign of mixing. Could this just be condensation on filler cap? Im only doing about 10 miles a day in it.

Hello and welcome to OOF :y These engines quite well known for getting "mayo" on the oil filler cap especially when used on short runs,I'd keep an eye on the situation for a while just to be on the safe side, but I'd say it's nothing to be worried over.

.

Cleaning of breathers & oil & filter change  essential upon new ownership IMO . . could stop a lot of misery later on .

Fairly simple   just follow the guide/s in the maintenance section on here  .    GM 10-40 semi synthetic oil recommended by most on here   ;)

Oh & of course a warm welcome to OOf  :y

Hello and welcome.
I know this will seem a long way from you (90 miles!), but if you are scared of your Omega's underbonnet I would suggest that for any major work you speak to Serek, a garage-owning Forum member. He knows and understands Omegas and will not rob you!
Actually, delete "major" work and add any work: I travel the 70 miles from my home to his garage even for an oil/filter change, because Serek will give the car a "once-over" and advise on anything that needs doing.
Lots of Forum feel the same way, travelling even greater distances for his excellent work.

Ron.

When I bought my 2.6 a few years back it was exactly the same a good run cured it and never came back in the 5 years I owned it.

the filler neck is an extension and can be completely removed for cleaning  :y
also allows you to see if there is any mayo in the cams 2,4,6
you can buy 20L of genuine trade club oil clicky for £38 tracked delivery to your door ,
there is an urban myth*  ;D that it can be had cheaper ,so you could shop around  :P

* awaits TB's "you can get it cheaper "

Call me cynical, but "free" labour forever sounds too good to be true: do you think it's an excuse for finding things to replace and charge for?

Hope they haven't charged for the warranty as it won't be worth a wipe with used loo roll.

Use GM oil, about £25 a gallon and drive the car further. Alot further. You'll find doing this actually uses next to no more fuel than a ten mile stint as it will be up to temperature rather than barely lukewarm  :y

No catch BigRon. Had all my work cars from there now. Always gives a good trade in on the old one . Had a BMW 320 auto dropping oil out of anywhere possible. Fully stripped and rectified. I wont go anywhere else now.

That's great - another honest garage!
You might consider saying who and where he is, for those members near you?
