Omega General Help / Re: Front Strut Top hat alignment
« on: 30 January 2018, 08:36:41 »
Old and worn top mounts can easily compress 15-20mm which would result in the 6 ribbed bits poking through even if nothing else is goosed.

My old MV6 was a bit like that, though not as bad, when I took the old top mounts off I put them side by side for a comparison.

I'm struggling to imagine how the rubber can deform 15-20mm without something else being wrong there too. There is a metal washer (17 in the image) between the strut and the underside of the top mount, so that would have to either be punched through or badly deformed.  And how much clearance is there between the strut top and the underside of the bonnet? One good speed bump and you might find some new piercings in the bonnet. :P

The strut and washer sit on the inner part of the top mount and the weight of the car sits on the outer part of the top mount and this is where the compression occurs.

Just for comparison sit your new and old top mounts side by side and you will see a difference, I had it with my Senator and my MV6 and I did have a photo somewhere but I think that has long gone.
With the Senator I had also used the strengthened washers from ABS a I was aware of the issues if the damper rod punching through the original washer.

Now I think about it, that bike had over 60k miles on the clock & was  reliable
No oil leaks to speak off & reasonably quick for the day. I dropped her on an icey morning  & nothing fell off   :) the crash bars worked nicely :y
But IIRC, they weighed more than the moon ;D

They did but at least the 400cc gave it a bit more go unlike the 250cc I had  ;D

It has been updated to 2 minutes to midnight. This is the closest it has been since 1953. :o :o :o

What I want to know is why were two 24 year old men in a car with a bunch of kids.......and why they didn't appear to be in charge.

When it first came on the local news it was thought that the men were pedestrians but as the facts were uncovered it turned out they were also in the car, as like you I question why two men were in with them. I still don`t know why  :-\

TBH it wouldn`t have been a loss if they had all died, it`s lucky no one else was caught up in it.

General Car Chat / Re: New MOT Test
« on: 22 January 2018, 09:52:27 »
I have been reading about the new MOT test, that is supposed to be coming in.  I wonder how many Omegas will end up coming off the road permanently?
 ::)
Major changes to the MOT test on 20th of May 2018

Brake pad warning lights are a major fail

Quite a worry for Citroen owners as the brake pad warning light came on with the Nemo and the pads were only 50% worn  :(

Is a MOT tester expected to check for shorted out sensing wires?  ::)

It wasn`t a shorted out wire, quite common apparently on Shitroen`s for the pad warning light to come on early, how many will just get it booked in to a dealers and get the pads (unnecessarily) changed.

It actually came on under 10k from new, it was only because I jacked it up and took the wheels off I found that there was plenty of meat on them.
