General Car Chat / The beast might be back tomorrow !
« on: 11 November 2010, 20:35:57 »
Thanks to everyone who gave advice about my completely non starting 3.0. She had some form of bizzare electrical/fuel delivery hissyfit/blowup and I feared she was dead. It was towed to an autoelectrical place on Monday and the chap has been Effing ang Jeffing like a goodun ( heard him in the background  ;D) whilst trying to revive it.

I got a call today to say he had found 9  :o wiring faults and had fixed them all and she now runs and drives, total cost £90. I won't know for sure  until I have hoofed her round the block a few times and made sure she still runs on gas but am really hopeful she is sorted and if so, will interrogate the guy for details in case annother Mig suffers the same fate.

Fingers crossed anyway :-/, can honestly say I haven't missed a car this much before

General Car Chat / Tight or what!
« on: 30 October 2010, 10:16:22 »
Just helped out the  Mrs friend who's daughter had kindly put a 2p into the lighter socket of her brand new fiesta and blew the fuse, eventualy found the fusebox hidden behind the glovebox but not a single spare fuse in there, they must cost a penny or so to make and they won't even give you a spare like all manufacturers used to. Is this commomplace now?

Pain was they are tiny little minifuse things so had to go to the factors to get one. >:(

General Car Chat / Another powersounder victim
« on: 15 October 2010, 13:22:29 »
Just been browsing coparts website and spotted another decent mig toasted due to the powersounder catching fire :o,can't link to it as I'm in work and right clicking is seen as the devils work >:(.

I don't know if it is me or is this becoming more common as migs are getting older and the batteries leak. I would hate to see the late 03/53 3.2 elites going up in smoke.

I personally think it should be advised for newbies to remove/replace them ASAP and maybe there should be a sticky or suchlike?  Any thoughts on this?

General Car Chat / MOT day
« on: 01 October 2010, 09:10:56 »
Realised it's due next week so lobbed it in this morning to give me a chance to sort any failiures out, usually give it a going over but have not had a minute.

Will last years mysteriously high co2 be an issue I wonder, only got a pass as the retest was a friday afternoon and the sniffer machine went nuts. Suspect wishbones are buggered too :(

General Car Chat / French bloody cars
« on: 12 August 2010, 19:58:07 »
Working on a 206 at the moment and find it quite hilarious how difficult they make every job, just took the exhaust off the manifold and the  4 nuts are all different sizes despite there being no space restrictions.

Thinking back to every french car I have had they where all pigs to work on!!

General Car Chat / Even Vaux crank/sens go wrong
« on: 10 August 2010, 20:18:48 »
Replaced my Crank sensor with one from the stealers about 6 months ago and got code 19 again along with huge starting problems!! >:(

I thought these were reliable? problem is I was originally given the wrong one which sat in my boot as a spare for 6 months previous until I came to change it, dealer said no guarantee on it as I had had it so long :(

General Car Chat / Vaux, What to do?
« on: 11 August 2010, 14:26:31 »
As I mentioned last night my 3 month old Vaux crank sensor appears goosed and I am getting code 19.

I had hoo har with the dealer as I got the wrong part and suubsequently did not receive another invoice when I got the right one a few months ago.

Chanced a call to the parts dep't who have requested I book it in for a diagnostic to check that it is the crank sensor at fault and if so they will replace it.

If it proves not to be I pay £89 for the scan. I am not that well up on tech 2 but guess it would confirm it.

Would they pull a stunt over the routing of it as it's not as per factory? or that my rocker cover is a bit weepy?

General Car Chat / New fangled MOT query
« on: 27 July 2010, 19:03:43 »
I'm picking up an MOT failiure 2001 Peugot 206 next week off a mate in work who basically can''t be arsed with it anymore, he had an MOT done at Kwik-Sh*t and was quoted £600 , both you and I know some fail points will be false.

Question is: If I put it through another garage I'm sure the fail points will show up on the computer when the reg goes in, are they of any relevance to the tester or is it a complete new test?  i.e. does he have any obligation to fail on the same points ?

General Car Chat / Spares car price?
« on: 10 June 2010, 18:13:17 »
Been offered a preface 3.0 elite for £200, bit of MOT left on but got an oil leak and is a bit tatty!

Got a couple of decent doors and bits I can use for mine.

I'm not sure if the cams on these are worth a few quid or not? I don't think these have the blind and the non airbag leather is not much in demand but what would I get for the shell scrap wise when finished with it? I know it aint costing much but the shitheap is a fair way away.
