Just need to find a PacMan carburettor adjustment tool and hopefully that is the issue. Cheers.

A bit of a pain to start again today - so took plug out - 6 pulls without plug - plug back in and it starts. Problem now is tick over . It wants to stay on full choke and will not idle without or with only light pressure on throttle. Mixture is 50 to 1 - and is new fuel. I have ordered new plug just in case. Really only a lock down project as these days the cordless hedgecutters  with 2 batteries will do the job and have gone to Worx for quite a few other items and very impressed. Will persevere with Ryobi for now and if no joy just get the body only cutter from Worx. Will also avoid the racket the Ryobi makes.

Thanks for input.

The 2 stroke hedge cutter has been a pain to start over the years. Got it going again today but there is clearly some knack to this but on line videos etc not a great help. After trying off and on during the day I just took the spark plug out and pulled the starter a few times, put plug back and it fired up. Filters clear and new fuel. Can anyone add any info as to why these seem to be such bad starters and any tips?

2 years ago I had Rory Bemner to an event I organised - this was the height of the Mexican wall thing with Trump. Doing his Trump impression he came out with - “Hadrian had the right idea  - he built a wall right across England , Hadrian is a great guy and a personal friend of mine”

Well done Steve for stepping in like that. Hope the outcome is a happy one.

Our daily walk is to the bottle bank.

Loads of jobs done - long overdue job of converting vhs camcorder tapes to digital almost completed. Amazing what it was like 30 years ago.

You're a bit big to be going down these narrow little shafts, aren't you? Be a hell of a job getting you out........ ;D

I know my limitations. As soon as circumstances permit will visit Speedwell, Treak Cliff, Blue John and Peak Caverns - test out my size and fitness 30 years or more on from last visits

I meant tall, Phil, tall  ;D

Thanks Steve - yes I understood that but I "may" have gone a bit wider in past 30 years.

Don't know about the rest of the country, but folk around here seem to have behaved very well. Went for a walk up Grimethorpe muckstack (Sounds nice, don't it) earlier, and saw two people with dogs. Very little traffic too.
Unlike Australia where, apparently, the beaches in certain areas were very busy.

Is that name for real or is it just what the locals use?

It's the mountains of slag built up over many, many years and landscaped once the mines closed.

Steve - have you been to the Caphouse Colliery - Mining Museum -  I went many years ago

Many years ago, Phil. The lad went with school a while back too. Scary when you go down and see the working conditions, I would recommend a visit to anyone who is in the area.
Also scary as regards working conditions and mine access - visited last year. Use of man engines.

A vac check is not sufficient as a test .. it works in totatally the "wrong" direction so can only detect major problems .. it cannot detect a small leak at a joint as it sucks the joint tight ... whereas normal pressure forces it apart ....... applying suction (Vac) to a system that runs at around 14bar is useless... which is why a PRESSURE check with dry nitrogen is the only thing that works..... not rocket science but appears to be beyond the numpties who try to sell it.. and often succeed .. :(

They did the nitrogen test first

Car is ready - they say that following the re-gas they have Vac tested it and nothing showing. Fingers crossed.

Went to a local garage last year and they did not do the right thing - when I got a mobile chap round he said there is no way they could not have noticed such a massive leak - that was on the Phaeton. Thing is this is supposed to be a diagnostic check and not a re-gas so I am hoping it is the least cost option to tell me where the leak is

Will be interesting to see what they do, it should be a visual check followed by a dry Nitrogen charge and some indicator dye...................trouble is I don't see Halfords doing that :-\

I can't see Halfords having either of the above in the first place ::)

When I dropped it off they said they would be doing a nitrogen test to avoid unnecessarily discharging aircon gas into atmosphere. They have just phoned to say that they cannot find any leak and given that I had it gassed less than 2 years ago there is no evidence of any dye having been used n the system at all. So they will re-gas and see how it goes - could be a very slow leak but dye will show this up.

That is what they are supposed to do - they did a simple free of charge test with a gauge at a store yesterday to confirm there was no gas at all. Today I am at the Autocentre for the proper jobbie hopefully. VX want £80 just to look at it.

You would be better going to the local garage, they will evap the system, then pressure test, with a dalek, it's a better option than Halfords youff no1, plugging a can and gauge onto the thing.
