Omega General Help / Re: Sloppy, slappy wipers
« on: 21 August 2007, 13:34:58 »
Have been driving Vauxhall cars for 20+ years and every single one has had slappy wipers..cavalier/astra/carlton/omega..only solution I found was to replace wipers about every 3/4 months with new..don,t buy anything other than Bosch and now with the option of a spoiler on drivers side it does improve slightly..but think it is just another vauxhall thing which we tend to live with...am sure it is the wind getting under wiper and causing it to jump

as viewed from front of car r/h side just below oil filter...cable runs up side of engine and into connecter by hbv..you will nead to remove wipers and screen scuttle panel to get access to plug..if you go into general info there is a perfect"how to do "..best of luck..quite straight forward but make sure you get the correct sensor unit !!

Omega General Help / Re: sun bleached bumpers
« on: 03 August 2007, 21:18:45 »
perhaps this sounds a bit mean but i use good quality black shoe polish...apply with a cloth so as to get all the bumpers blackened and it is easier than a brush..leave it to dry for an hour or so and then give a good buff up with a soft brush..to ensure it stays black i then apply autoglym bumper care..although bit pricey..again leave to dry and then brush polish..my bumpers and door bump strips look like new and have a nice shine aswell..give it a try ..it works for mine

Omega General Help / Re: My on going knock Grrr Any ideas ?
« on: 30 July 2007, 09:06:44 »
Had a similar knock on my elite...after lots of searching replaced the adjustable steering coloumn and has cured it..worth a try as i picked mine up on fleabay for £40 and whilst it was a bit of a pain  especially getting the air bag light of after all is now as it should be..think the bearing or coupler at end goes rusty or causes the shaft to get squared edges..anyway hope that line of thought might help you

Had similar noises when had mine changed last..complained to my mechanic and he told me he had used some strange make from his supplier...said he would replace under warranty with mintex pads and front discs..no noises since so expect it is after market quality problems...megas seem to work better with genuine parts..bit more coslty but less issues in long run.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 v6 won't idle
« on: 24 July 2007, 13:01:29 »
Try unplugging the cables going to the throttle position sensor...situated on r/h side front of throttle body..is a small black unit with rubber plug connecting it..worth checking wires and ensuring no moisture inside plug..also have a look at the plug connecter on the back of the idle control valve..silver cylinder unit behind that connecter same side of engine....would be worth removing entire body and giving a good clean out with carb cleaner as may have picked up some muck and causing valve inside to stick..best of luck with it...by the way engine idle speed has to be adjusted electronically so no screw like old carb !!bet it is dirt some where causing something to stick...assuming it ran and idled ok before the water issues

Omega General Help / Re: Throttle position sensor
« on: 20 July 2007, 09:10:03 »
Small black box secured by 2 screws on the right hand side of the throttle body as viewed from the front of car..has a rubber plug connecter held on by clip tabs with 3 wires going into it and the exit cable goes into the cable tray which runs along the right side of plenum chamber....had issues with mine and it turned out to be a chaffed wire shorting out on bracket for air con pipe..this was causing erratic running and idle...worth checking the plug connecter as beleive they start to corrode and wires become brittle and don,t give good connection.....if you read previous posts i made on this you can do a voltage check across the connecters to ensure all is well

Omega General Help / Re: help idle problem
« on: 16 July 2007, 10:53:43 »
Had similar problems with my 2.5 elite that you are describing..suggest you remove the idle control valve..give it a really good clean with carb fluid and then a couple of drops of 3:1 oil on the slider to ensure it moves freely..also worth checking the wiring from the cable tray to the tps as mine had started to chaff and was causing a slight electrical short..like yours only intermittent..if you read through past questions over last couple of weeks you will find all my issues..good luck with it and hope it is a minor setback for you and your mega ownership

Totally agree with calculations at 16 per mile..doesn,t sound that horrible at that figure but then ...5 miles per litre at 90p then 25 miles at 5 litres..starts to get nasty as I do between 150/180 miles a day..so that is nearer £30=00 a day..think I will stop that calculation and have a drink to steady nerves..who started this anyway ??

Miles per tank sounds about right with me too.I drive between 130/180 miles every day of the week including weekends. So as not to get too depressed I have started only putting in £20=00 a day as full tank costs nearer £50=00..whilst it is only a mind thing I do put fuel in everyday ..7 days a week..so 300/350 a tank is about correct with my calculating..my mileage is mostly Motorway at 70/80 with mixture of London bumper to bumper and this time of year A/C on all time..nobody buys an Omega to do economical travel..just that I have driven them for over 350,000 miles and enjoy them not to worry about the fuel..though perhaps I should..but that is another story...can also remember when you got a gallon of fuel for £1=00..showing my age now

Omega General Help / Re: v6 2.5 omega crank shaft sensor
« on: 17 July 2007, 22:43:57 »
I f the car strored a fault code then it was pointless that the electrician just cleared it...if the crank sensor is registering a fault buy a new one and replace it now before it does completely stop and leave you stranded..I bought one from Vauxhall,s recentley and £70=00 is about right..stick to a genuine part and read the how to guides..it is quite easy to fit just need the car up on stands or over a pit..best of luck and get it changed sooner than later

Omega General Help / Re: V6 idling
« on: 13 July 2007, 10:06:00 »
Had similar issues to you..after replacing throttle position sensor and then icv unit traced problem to fault with wiring..to be more precise it was the plug that goes into the tps....had a voltage drop with sensor that was cured by going to breakers and getting a relacement plug and section of loam ..rejoined cables and all works fine..it turned out that cable had worn through casing in cable tray and was shorting out on bracket for air con pipe..if you go back over posts from past 2 weeks you may find your problem is similar as i was given loads of help..best of luck with it
