light warning comes on but lights seem ok
« on: 28 September 2019, 19:22:12 »

Does anyone have any idea, why the tail headlight warning comes on? It is a 1995 Omega, checked the bulbs but cannot see anything obvious. It used to come on intermittently, I changed Headbulb and it hasn't done it for ages. Now it has done it twice.

Thanks for any help.

I had this some years ago on a 1995 Omega. On mine the headlught/taillight warning would be on constant with the headlights turned on. Changed bulbs, cleaned connectors and checked wiring but could never figure it out. Finally i found some Opel/Vauxhall service manual for Omega B online which had a service bulletin stating that on some early cars when customer complained about headlight/taillight warning and all lights worked fine the solution was to swap the light warning module to a newer type. Early cars seemed to have a more unreliable warning module. Bought one of eBay and swapped it over. Problem went away for me and never came back.

Thank you for the quick reply. Sorry for appearing stupid but what and where is the light warning module on a 1995 Omega Estate? They are normal headlights, not HID and doesn't have self levelling suspension.

No Led lights, normal ones. I use the same bulbs in my 2002 Omega without any problems. Must admit never thought about the number plate lights, will check when wife gets back.

Bulb control unit lives on the sidewall inside the dash where the a pillar meets the dashboard. Remove the cardboard under the dash driver side and its way up at the top above the fusebox clipped to the sidewall/a pillar. At least on lhd cars. Dont know about rhd cars but would assume it to be on driver side there to.

Thank you, will check No. Plate lights. If ok, will check the unit. I think I have found it on ebay, is this it?

And used unit will probably do fine. Since the newer type seems very reliable.

Thanks everyone, you were correct one of the Number plate lights was loose, so was working until I tapped it, then it would go out, tap it again and it would work, so bent the connectors out slightly seems to be working.

numberplate lights aren't on check control on the Omega, so it aint that.

The saloons have 4 tail bulbs, 2 integrated into brake lights, 2 seperate. Ensure all 4 are secure. It can be fussy on really shit quality bulbs, like egay specials, or old school Halfords (but anything in last 5yrs seems fine)

You are correct. The message reappeared, so between the rain took each bulb out. Passenger side with the two elements in, was not looking to good, so changed it everything seems ok for no.

The number plate bulb, being lose was a red herring.

Thanks again for the help.
