If 8,000 votes will actually make a difference to Labour party support, then they're going to need a bigger gimmick 

Take a look at how many seats were won and lost by a handful of votes at the last election. 
I haven't checked, but I suspect that 8000 votes in the right / wrong places, could have given May a decent working majority or put Corbyn in Downing street.

In normal times I would completely agree, but......Brexit, Trump, Corbyn actually being elected as leader and turning Labour into Europes biggest political party, all say we are sailing in uncharted waters where anything can happen. 

OK.....let me put it another way. If he gets elected, then we deserve everything we get.

If I was a rough sleeper I'd immediately move to a new doorway in somewhere like Kensington, Chelsea or Belgravia, as I doubt they will be buying cheap flats in down market areas and shipping them out there for fear of accusations of social cleansing. 

Oh no, those who abide in a doorway or on a bench will have to be housed in the same area.

Incidentally, he said that the 8000 houses would be taken over from housing associations. Maybe I'm wrong but my understanding is that these provide housing for the low paid etc. So, would the current occupiers be evicted ?

Yes because housing associations have thousands of empty properties around the country.... 

You're right Rog he does come out with ill considered crap, but the trouble is that there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions who are sucking it all up!

Don't kick the homeless, whilst they are down. Do we all really think that ANY of them want to be homeless? By homeless do we mean rough sleepers? OR families living in a one room B&B because they can't find any where to live, and Sofa Surfers?

Do we think that a civilised society is out where there is 250,000 empty homes and another 250,000 empty spaces above shops which could be converted into homes, with the right planning application and funding, whilst there are 500,000 homeless.

I advertised a 3 bed semi for rent in Crosby L23, Yesterday, on Openrent, and so far in 24 hours , 15 expressions of interest. There are NOT enough homes to go around, and why should the homeless be less entitled to a home.

Unless you know their story, do not judge.

??% of people have no real back financial back up. They are in debt, and if they lost thier job tomorrow, they'd be struggling to pay the rent. Add in a little mental illness and a touch of alcohol and you're pretty much a down and out.

If Jezza thinks that those who are not homeless care, he's naive. Many of the responses to this thread are shockingly Daily Mail readership type responses and unfortunately for Jezza the UK appears to be half full of uncaring people, who unfortunately have the right to vote.

Liebour mass migration has been a major cause of this problem where house building hasn't kept up. Unskilled people that don't speak English, have found integration into UK society difficult. House prices reflect the shortage of houses and are well beyond the price of young people, the unskilled on the minimum wage or less where they don't have the paperwork to work in the normal economy. Freedom of movement is another major problem where some people that cannot support themselves or are professional thieves come here looking for easy pickings. Since the single market the proportion of immigrants in our prisons has grown considerably. Street crime and the use of weapons has also gone up especially in London.

Leaving the EU and the end of the free movement of people will help along with matching skills to available jobs for those that want to work here.

Compo Corbyn is very quiet on what a future Labour government would do on migration which you can take to mean their policy make BLiar's and Mandlescum's mass migration policies look very mean and restrictive where Liebour need to recruit more Liebour voters. With his support of Middle Eastern terrorist groups it is not difficult to see where their main recruitment ground will be and what it will do for our safely.

Personally, I would like to see more hostels as the first step of integrating people back into society, so they have a address along with helping them get a job as a regular income will help to integrate them back into mainstream society.

I think you've missed the point a bit, as we're kicking Corbyn not the homeless.  It's the message that he's sending, that you don't have to bother because the government will look after you.  That's what's wrong! 

It's very easy to slip through the cracks of society and end up on the streets that's true enough, but the government splashing out a billion or so of taxpayers money buying houses won't solve the problem and is more likely to exacerbate it.   

By the way, it seems these days that calling someone a Daily Mail reader is the worst insult going, worse than son of a whore?
