Post by: robson on 01 December 2019, 17:09:04
My reversing lights do not work Checked bulbs and fuse all ok.I suspect the switch which I believe is on the gear box or a broken wire in the boot corner,Any idea of wire colour for this,

White with black trace.

Auto box is switched by the selector switch on the box side, manual is a separate switch on the box tail.

If yours is a saloon it's quite likely to be in the wrapped loom that connects the body to the boot lid. Nearside at the bend where it flexes. As opposed to the gearbox.

That was my same problem I had. Good luck.  :y We need to keep theses cars on the road for as long as possible before their all gone.. :y

If yours is an estate, I've found on a 2 different occasions the wires detach from the inside of the light unit inside the tailgate.

Switch failure is most likely cause. I've had 2 fail on my manual Omegas. replacements are cheap, £15ish.

Thanks for the replies, I have a MOT tomorrow But I believe that on a car of this age Reversing lights are not covered This requirement came in for cars after 2009?.So I will sort out when it is a bit warmer.

As mentioned, boot lid wiring harness is the first place to start investigating.

Side lights. The rear on a saloon has four. Two are on the boot lid.

Likely the boot lid pair aren't working. That points to your loom being broken between the body and the lid. On the nearside by the hinge.

 ......

IIRC the face lift only has 1 on each side ie the lights in the boot were dropped

that tends to be a dimming of the lamp when the indicator or brake light is  switched on
poor earthing and corroded terminals
it's worth checking all the terminals, looms ,bulb holders
are both fog lights in the boot lid working ? (that proves good earth to the lid clusters for reverse lamp)
