Rewired the front solenoid on TBE, and fitted the solenoid that turned up yesterday.

Also fitted some new boot struts, as the old ones were clearly weak, though seemed strong enough when trying to compress them by hand.

Cleared the P0420 and P0430 codes again.

Declared it[the Omega that is]Sorn until such time as any kind of enthusiasm returns to sort its problems out.

It's a year today that we got the 75k Astra H Design estate tractor juice edition £875  :)
checked it over yesterday, replaced the drop links £12 and rear brake back plates £13 each, serviced it etc
took it for MOT today, passes no advisories  :)
it's done another 10,800 miles
which equates to a fuel cost saving of about £500 compared to the 1.6 petrol astra G estate it replaced  :)
had to replace a small section of rad hose about 6 months ago and 2 hose clamps (about £2)

cheaper than running an omega
dull as dishwater to drive  ;D

Sawed the tailpipe off as it was blocked on one pipe. Car is pulling better now at topend of Rev range. I think I will just weld two pipes onto what’s there and fetch it out the back.   Or.....I was thinking maybe a large Y pipe and large single exhaust where the box was. As it’s not unduly loud probably due to the multitude of cats boxes etc  :y

Spent the weekend ripping the piss out of big bro, who has been in a courtesy car for a month or more, as his less than 1 year old, £85k, S Class is awaiting parts.

He's just been told by Merc that the parts are due sometime "early 2020" ;D

I know I shouldn't laugh, but I did tell him not to...

I have to say, in his position, I'd have had an absolute meltdown. Unless ofc my hire car was also an S-class, in which case, I'd probably let it go  ;D

Unless I win a large sum of money, it's a problem I doubt I will encounter,. If I did I would want an exchange or refund,,, In the Truck world they just take the required parts from another vehicle in the compound. Or is that to simple for car dealers.

How many RHD S-class do Merc build, let alone sell in the UK? I doubt dealers have them hanging about to rob parts off. The opposite applies to the smaller cars; they'd need one for spares for each they sold.

I would assume, depending on which part is needed, it would be used on other vehicles with in the group.

Nah, this is Mercedes remember.  They don't design anything, they randomly get a load of parts, and try and bolt it together.  That's why the result, since around 1990, is generally pretty rubbish.

He aint best pleased. He has been loaned a CLS as a replacement.

His suggestions to MB Customer Service to pull a part from the production line is, apparently, "impossible".  But he can have a new one, fresh from the line...

...if he stumps up £85k
