General Discussion Area / Technology
« on: 12 July 2021, 13:37:29 »
Anyone else feel they are always in a battle against technology? The very same thing that is supposed to make life easier.

Yesterday we failed to get a Samsung Tab to “ cast” to a Samsung smart TV. It has worked before.

Trying to swap icloud suppliers for backups

Failed to bluetooth Radio  from an iphone to car radio today. Normally works well. Radio shows track  but no sound.

The list is endless. I am trying to get Nord VPN working to “ watch” UK TV. Easy on a compatible router. Not so easy on devices. Tech is supposed to be intuitive.

I cant wait for autonomous cars declaring “ sorry can’t go now as doing an update and didnt recognise your fingerprint”.

Rant over.

Just been reading about the charges for this. £8 for car and £50 for a lorry.

You cannot argue against the concept of saving lives by reducing pollution but that is a hefty payment. I can see some businesses losing custom.

I spent a few years working in the centre of Birmigham in the 90’s. I used to mix driving and train. Both had their pluses and minuses.

Anyone on here going to be affected?

All very interesting stuff.

There must be a fair few people who suspected what Cummings alleges.

We have always thought Hancock was toast the minute it was politic.

Where do you think it will lead?

General Car Chat / Car and seawater
« on: 20 May 2021, 17:48:24 »
I didn’t see it go in but saw the Honda 4x4 and trailer being pulled up out of the water on a seaweed covered slipway.

It was covered top to bottom in seaweed and we watched the two guys bailing water out of the cabin.

I figured wrongly that it wouldnt restat. Half an hour later and it drove by pulling the empty boat trailer. They were very lucky methinks not to have submerged their airbox. Don’t know whether it was petrol or diesel. Suspect the latter.

General Discussion Area / Best guitarist ever?
« on: 12 May 2021, 20:27:32 »
I think Eric Clapton was once asked “ what is it like being the best guitarist ever”? His reply, “ Don’t know , ask Prince”.

I wouldnt have put Prince in the top ten but maybe given his performance on Prince Gently weeps from Rock Hall 2004 Directors Cut

Who would you put in your top three?

Over to the Iranians.

I thought it was some kind of Israeli action.

It will be interesting to see how Biden pans out in the next few weeks on this.

General Discussion Area / Boris and easing lockdown
« on: 21 February 2021, 19:27:25 »
The world, well maybe just Europe, will be watching Boris and Britain over the coming weeks.

Easy to go into lockdown not so easy to come out.

Britain has a head  start after the spectacular success of its vaccination programme ( a clear demo of the advantage of Sovereignty!).  Israel has a good head start too.

I wonder how it will pan out?  We have Easter to come unless governments “ cancel “ it.

Vaccination passports are still very much under consideration.    Also known as Common Pass.

General Discussion Area / BazaJT crowd funding promotion
« on: 19 February 2021, 13:21:00 »
I don’ t think there is a crowd funding facility on the website but thought I would start a thread for poor BazaJT. Just to give him a boost mentally and an opportunity to get promoted from Haddock Head to Omega Lord.

Please donate your time generously - a simple hello or asking about his health should suffice.

Here is mine .Stay strong Baza, greetings from a sunny Spain.

General Discussion Area / Bat Flu forecasts
« on: 10 February 2021, 11:35:24 »
What do you think the future holds for us?

There is a school of thought that we will have perpetual cycles of lockdowns, new virus strains ( I am waiting for the “ Do it for Yorkshire” strain) , repeat vaccination.

I have just been talking to a Spanish neighbour who says nothing will change for a year! He might be right as vaccination process here is only just getting going. Brits might be vaccinated and think travel might be on the cards but South Europe won’t be open any day soon.

My own view is that we will end up wearing ( hopefully lightweight) space helmets with air handling packs. That wont help with normality returning but is only a small step up from wearing masks. Who would have thought 11 months ago we would be where we are now!

What do you think will be happening in six or twelve months time?

General Discussion Area / Vaccine passports

These seem to be touted as the answer to getting sporting events and spectators, flights, holidays going again. All the things we took for granted 12 months ago.

I think it was Qantas that started it rolling by saying they wouldn't fly anyone who couldn't prove they had been vaccinated. You could show your certificate, QR code on your mobile or whatever.

Certainly the UK has shown interest and Ursula said the EU would define the requirements for the Common Pass by the end of January ( been and gone and no definition). The Common Pass would "allow travel and access to open spaces". On the face of it, in everyones interests. Gets the economy going again, holidays, travel and so on. I won't post links as there is plenty of stuff available on google.

My personal view is it is a giant ponzi scheme in as much as it is just a tool to help in the drive to get as many folk vaccinated as possible to reduce health problems. ( if you get it and lower chance of giving it to others). The acid test , in my view , is when someone challenges the legality of it. For example having made bookings and turn up for expensive foreign travel and one or more of the party are refused on a technicality. Or they couldn't have the vaccine because of a medical condition or they might have been an anti vaxer . Or you want to go to a country that doesn't accept the AZ jab for over 65's or you didn't have your second jab within 12 weeks. Same if someone is refused a job or not considered because of their Common Pass status. My gut feeling is that these wouldn't stand up in a court of law. It will be something to do with the Geneva Convention of Human Rights. But that is all some months maybe a year down the line.

What do you think?

A date for your diary. February 11th.

Lots of lots .Cheapest bottle likely to be a mere £100. Most expensive is a bottle that sold for £1.4 million and may make more this time.  Amazingly some of the £1million bottles do get opened and are drinkable if a bit oaky.  Imagine having a £30,000 single tot with your meal.!

Anyone going apart from Lord Opti of course?

Hats off to Navalny. Cojones of steel. I wonder what else his entourage will expose.
