Do you still have a code 73? (and no new codes). (without a code reader the old codes won't go away for some time after the fault is fixed)

If so you should be looking for damaged wiring or something having been unplugged.

The other possibility is that the plug to the MAF has been swapped with the plug to the solenoid on the bagpipes

Does the engine actually run? The one time the EML flashes on a 3.0l is immobiliser, which would prevent starting...

Hi, yes engine runs and starts, does the eml not stop flashing once the fault has be sorted and just remain as a stored fault code ?

bigfoot55 - can you describe the light, as the EML does not flash (except the immobiliser fault, already discounted as the car starts), and on a 3.0l, the EML is either on solid, or its off.

Where are you, if near me, will happily plug the tech2 in :y

I once had a flashing EML light on a Mk3 Astra. It was accompanied but a series of sudden jolts. Turned out to be the CPS.

Silly question.. have you still got the paper clip in the diagnostic socket?

Hi,  paperclip has been removed  i think !. Hi theboy  thanks for the offer :y but a bit far from me with car unkown fault. the light description  i would say its flickering fast at idle. as you rev it the flickering slows down and the light is more solidly on , if that makes any sense. any recommendations for a fault code reader there seems loads on the market  maxiscan ms 509 any good, looks like it covers most things. paper clip test done again still showing 73 nothing else.

A flicker then?

When you do paperclip test, you are getting:
12
12
12
73
73
73
12
12
12

only?  Any 31 or 19?

I would test the alternator, if the light is changing how quikcky it flickers from Idle to the engine being revved that would be my first point of call and take it from there  :y

My 3.0 f/l Elite flashed the light when I had a code 19. For about 10 miles (from M1 exit to brackley) all down the A43 it was flickering, then going out, then staying on for a bit... repeat for 10 miles. Eventually it just stayed on (just about when I reached Brackley).

Perhaps something peculiar to code 19 as I had known I had the 19 for a while following regular paperclip tests but it hadnt thrown then light until that point. New crank sensor problem solved of course.
