thirsty screen wash
« on: 25 August 2007, 14:25:10 »

i've got the head lamp washers with a 6.3 ltr washer tank, and i seem to be filling  alot more often than i ever used to on any other car, my wife lives i Poland and its a 1000mile round trip and after every round trip i need to refill, i feel i do use the washers often but not excessivly, do the headlight washers really use this much extra fluid?

I have checked for leaks and there are no wet patches under the car.

Yup 4 jet high pressure headlight washers really get through the fluid. one thing to check is that the light washers only work when the lights are on,pump should be disabled when lights are off.

yeap only work when lights are turned on. Never had head light washers before and it feels excessive :o, but sounds normal from what you guys say, better start buying shares in screen wash manufactures.

Wash the screen with a single long squirt of the washers rather than pulsing them. When you squirt the headlight washers stop after a short delay leaving just the windscreen washers running.

.. but they do still get through a bit of water.

I switch off the lights before using the windscreen washers because I don't fancy having my entire bonnet wet with the half the content of the screenwash bottle. Quite scary during night-time motorway driving, I mus say...

Yes, normal.  All the cars I've had with headlight washers have got through lots of screenwash.

If you do not have HID/Xenon headlights, you could always just disconnect the headlamp washer pump.  If you have HID/Xenon lights, you really do need the washers working though....
