Wanted set of rear springs for my Elite Estate..

MOT failure on a broken rear spring on my Elite Estate, suspension is non air and had been changed before my ownership to Bilsteins B6's front and rear.

So if anyone has a set for sale I'd be very appreciative, but if not Bilstein then a 'normal' set would be fine.

and one thing boris the div has'nt answered is what happens to HMS montgomery..??...a second world war ship sunk with 2000 tonnes of explosives...cant be raised or blown up.....as if it goes it will cause a very bid tidal wave which knock out the isle of sheppy(which tbh no one will miss)...parts of gravesend, bluewater, and parts of south london....but one thing for sure is this boat is not stable enough to put up with the heavy duty air traffic they are proposing :y

I was going to mention that but you got there first.. Heads in the sand come to mind, something has to be done about it eventually..

If there is a bracket from the dipstick to the Bastaed Bolt?

To explain what I mean.......
Had a look at a 03 2.6 the other day and the dipstick was loose so not attached. Removed the Pain in the Arse Bolt, moved the engine lifting bracket to find that the bracket on the dipstick is about an inch lower than it should be. So the famous Bolt has no chance of going through it.
I can't actually think I have ever seen a bracket of any description to secure the dipstick other than obviously the flange with its hole in attached to the dipstick.......  ??? and if there is such a bracket, why alter the dipsticks?

When I took my bastard bolt out something fell off which I never did find.. But I think it was something which held the dipstick in place, now held secure with tie wraps..

I've recently replaced the rear suspension donuts to my car I bought mine from  http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/ and thought they would be the OEM versions as they use the part number 90447156N, but I now found out the 'N' at the end indicates they are not OEM versions.

Whilst the handling of the car is much improved from before it still at times gets caught out with a bit of rear steering from tramlines and ruts, would it help if i got the 'proper' bushes from Vauxhalls. Are they much different ?

Is there anything else thats likely to wear out, I would have a look but the weather has not been kind these last few days.

Maplins had some deals. I bought a 2tb USB for about £80 which was cheaper than their 1tb, as Kevin said HD prices are very high at the moment..

Pete.

Here is the update....sounds like they should come out a lot easier when new. :y

Update.

It has become clear that its important to fit the bush with the correct orientation. That being with the void holes/slots nearest the front and back of the car, and with the solid areas, that join the centre spacer to the body, nearest the sides of the car so as to give most resistance to sideways movement, and allow movement for and aft.

...

So to reiterate, the solid sections pointing, or aligned with the rear dif. And the pointing along the line of the subframe arm.

I must be reading this wrong because these seem to contradict each other?!?!?

I think that's what threw me and i installed then square to the car and not in line to the subframe arm, all sorted now..

Omega General Help / How do you do yours, wishbones that is..
« on: 22 December 2011, 19:58:29 »
Just changed my wishbones again for a set with poly bushes..

This is about the 4th time Iv'e changes a set and usually when refitting I get the front and rear bushes aligned with the bolts in loose the faff about trying to get the bottom suspension leg ball joint in place, its usually involves a large lever to get the wishbone low enough to line up the pin.

But this time on one side I decided to put the ball joint in place first, then get the rear bush in place, this was probably harder than usual due to the wishbone being at an angle, so I had to use a drift to knock the metal sleeve of the bush in place, then the front pivot was quite easy because I put the poly bushes in last by pulling the wishbone down and sliding the bushes in.

So how do you do yours, ball joint in first or last...

they may reimburse you in goods but not in cash I suspect

After a bit of foot stamping, I got my money back, there was talk of sending it away to their technical dept for them to look at. Hardly seemed worth all that it was only £38...

Pretty impressive bit of work done there, and in super  :y :y :y speedy time.

Glad to hear the handling has improved and your efforts have been succesfull. ;)

I used the place over the Rochester Bridge on the L/H side by the Petrol garage and found them very professional and helpfull. Not sure if they are affiliated to WIM,s but they have all the kit there and several guys who do seem to know how to use it. :y

That's where I'm booked in when I ring them up for a date and time, couldn't get it done today but hopefully after xmas, had a chat with WIM they send their data across to whoever's doing the alignment. So should be WIM'd without the miles of travel. We shall see and I'll report back..

Has the fluid level been checked? Wondering if they just put a dash of fluid in them to test, lest it leaks out inside the container on its' way over from China. ;)

Then again, it's up to Machine Mart to ensure the product works when sold.

Precisely, I could strip it down to find out but why, but its brand new.

General Car Chat / Machine Mart rant...
« on: 22 December 2011, 15:03:17 »
Recently bought a new 2ton trolley jack to help me with removing my rear wishbone bushes (see other thread) I thought my other halfords special wouldn't have enough height.

Use my new jack to do one side ok, but when used on the other side of the car the jack wont lift the car high enough as the handle has run out of stroke, it appears as if its low on oil and wont pump any more.

So I take it back to Machine Mart, guy takes it out the box and says its because the releasing screw is undone, I explain I'm not that stupid and had to release the screw to lower the jack and get it back in the box. So he proceeds to take it outside and jack up a car in the car park, (which I assume is his) and low and behold it wont lift very far. So I get a replacement..

And guess what, this new ones even bloody worse !!! hardly jacks up at all.. I wonder if they'll pay my petrol at about 20miles round trip each time...

Ok, rear bushes removed turned round and smacked in with a big 'ammer....

As a bonus I've also changed the front wishbones again with ones with poly bushes, only took 2 1/2 hours, I must be getting better.

And just to repay me the car has thrown up a 0420 code, precats etc...

Just been for a little drive and its much improved.

Now just trying to book some online geo with WIM to get it done at a garage near me. Has to be done online with WIM to get their settings.. Hopefully this afternoon, but don't hold out much hope its now 2pm..

The original position is correct. There is an amendment in the guide, which needs an update. A big update, tbh.

Bugger, I put them in 90deg to the car, looks like will have to come out again, And having retread the guide again it does make sense now. What's the chances of getting them out undamaged. And should the bushes go back flush with the arm because they stand out a little bit and won't go in any further which seems odd.
On re fitting, once the bush is in as far as you can get it, fit the centre bolt only and tighten until it hits the inner chassis, this stretches the bush inner inward. Then with a hammer, welt the outside edges inward to get the last couple of mill of depth until the flange sits flush with the arm. The bigger the hammer(not a Sammy) and the higher the car, to get a swing at it, the better. Av it! ;)

Thanks for that Chris, off to get a bigger hammer....
