yes i would agree with that . the original balljoints are usually long lasting and good quality . if there is still a degree of stiffness in their movement i would just carefully examine the boot and regrease . some aftermarket stuff doesnt last long !

as nick mentions it wouldnt do any harm to purchase some but not nesesarlily fit them yet.
if the rear springs are indeed selflevelling versions and the self levelling is not working then you would expect the rear of the car to be too low as it is now. or even look not too bad unloaded but be way too low with any passengers in the back ?
if the rear level is good however then it suggests the rear springs are std versions. ( maybee aftermarket that just happen to have those letters printed on ? )
springs dont physically "wear out " as such but can become weak over time and the indication of this is a drop in level .  a spring  cannot technically become weak and stay at  the same height.
same scenario with the fronts. if the ride height is correct then the springs are good. yes they could snap tommorow. but so could a new one too !

it all sounds very likely especially if the car had never experienced any issues at all untill you put the can of fuel in it.  modern fuel doesnt keep very well compared to what it used to .
i remember draining the tankof a car  that i hadnt used for a few years and tried to use the fuel up by putting just one can in a car with half a tank of current fuel in it. it was definately a bit jerky afterwards for a while ?
time will tell !

so if im reading this correctly ....... you have now fitted a cl ecu from a donor car and all the central locking now works fine ? ( using your original 'keys' and the new donor push button sections .
if this is correct then obviously it sounds like there was a fault in the original unit . so realy that means " job done / cl fixed . presume you just want the original fixed as a spare ?

General Discussion Area / Re: Gas & Leccy Bills

ive been with british gas for both for many years and just pay the quarterly bill at the post office when they send it . even thou i get the occasional meter reader round its pretty much always an estimated bill and is more of less correct !

yes the key physically turns the locks it is cut for, the little removeable chip operates the immobiliser ring and the ( detacheable) section with the buttons works with the alarm/cl ecu it is programmed to .  all 3 completely isolated systems of the car .

if there is no valve to test the pressure from them you will need to 't' into the connector .most pressure guages come with a selection of adapters.

not sure on that model if it uses a supply line to the injectors and then the regulator (if there) sends excess back on a return line or wether its regulated at source and then only has one supply line to the front  ? either way a pressure test is a good idea eventually

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 Elite - Surface rust in bores
« on: 22 March 2024, 18:35:04 »
considering that bores wear with mileage and still run absolutely perfect (until they reach a point obviously) i cant imagine that a light polish would have done any harm. ive rebuilt many an engine using original pistons and rings and polished the same as you with no issues.
i have simulated the hone pattern by moving the paper up and down as rotating it.

yes the door lock/catch has a physical linkage to the operating solenoid and also one to the button. ( and obviously to the interior handle, exterior handle and key lock)if your solenoid is going fully up and down like it should then it sounds like a linkage or 2 have come off. maybee whoever worked on it last didnt flick the retainers in place .
however whilst the door trim is off is a good time to lube everything up ,even remove it all if you can to be 100% sure .
the front locks suffer from a few issues .the solenoids have some microswitches in them that can go faulty and the lock/catch mechsnism can seize up due to rust or general lack of lubrication and also the main shaft has a linkage that is just pressed and peaned on. this can work loose and eventually fall off !   then its a replacement or weld repair.

General Car Chat / Re: Mark Drakeford

the problem is actually caused by us anyway realy when you look at it . not us individually but as a collective group of "people, drivers ,etc ". most laws and penalties , fines etc are only made because  we cannot be relied upon to actually drive sensibly in the first place . if nobody ever speeded then there would never be any speedlimits cameras or fines !.pretty obvious realy and relates to many other laws too.   but putting 20mph signs up doesnt actually do anything and seems to actually make some drivers actually go faster .(certainly round by me they do !) you struggle to drive 20 in a 20 zone without being tooted or overtaken . ive not got a problem with any speed limits especially if they show a reduction in accidents

i hate weird issues like this but hopefully it might be solved and if it does reoccur you will see what cylinder it throws up . quite fun little cars when they are working right !

you could always add an extra inline filter in the supply line in a more accesible place but sounds like you are on the right track now
