Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Radio on, no sound
« on: 06 November 2023, 10:40:33 »
it does sound that way doesnt it.
if its the chip itself or even just a bad solder joint its worth opening the unit up and spending an evening in it ( if you can or want to !. i know i would but not everybody does !)
depending also on  your soldering skills or determination i would at least price up a replacement chip to try.

ah well at least its not just radio related /areial.(which would have possibly been an easier fix ?)
sounds like the unit will have to be removed one way or the other .connections are worth checking obviously but cannot see that any bad connection on the back would allow the unit to still work but cut all 4 output channels.
unless anyone knows exactly where to look inside specifically it sounds like a bad internal solder joint or connection somewhere. i had a similar issue earlier this year with a different unit where everything was crisp and clear except the cassette output which was distorted. that took a lot of head scratching to sort. lots of joints were resoldered and various components swapped untill it was resolved.
one more silly question thou sorry probably not the fault but ....does your car have anything that splices into and cuts the audio for any reason such as a phone system or similar ?   wasnt some models fitted with a trafficmaster system ? how does that connect in ? ?

General Car Chat / Re: do we have any jetronic LE2 experts please ?
« on: 04 November 2023, 15:53:58 »
yes i was wondering wether other cars used a similar setup but i think later stuff was another form of jetronic or motronic where the idle speed control was incorporated in the main ecu rather than a seperate box.carlton mk3 for example but like some omegas they use a 2 wire valve anyway so not the same .
there are many 3 terminal valves listed on ebay for various other cars such as vw,bmw, jaguar etc so they MAY use a seperate ecu ? im still digging around the internet but it seems hard to find any relevant info with most idle speed issues been related to the control valve rather than the ecu which is not the case here. proven by substitution.
i have a working ecu on now and the other ecu swaps symptoms to other car so its definately something in there !
i may have to just resolder every joint and replace every electrolytic for starters and go from there

General Car Chat / Re: Fuel hose - careful now!
« on: 04 November 2023, 15:45:50 »
yes i had the same issue albeit not from any reputable seller as such. marked with an sae reference and 'r9 fuel injection hose' but no makers name i have since found out that most of this stuff is either fake hose unsuitable for fuel at all or low quality hose.
i have since replaced all my hoses (they showed signs of perishing especially on bends) with my preffered choice of known brand hose .codan and cohline in my case 5/16 r9 .

General Car Chat / do we have any jetronic LE2 experts please ?
« on: 03 November 2023, 18:06:31 »
hi. all .the jetronic efi system fitted to many 1983-1986 vauxhalls such as senators and carlton 2.2's have a variable idle air valve controlled by its own seperate ecu.these ecu's often fail and cause issues. looking inside them pretty much reveals nothing of note to suspect and close examination of solder joints and replacing capacitors doesnt solve anything.
swapping the ecu with a known working one makes everything ok again
SO
do we have any experts on these ( or a known link to any sites that do ?)
ecu repair facilities dont reply (obviously as they want the work !)

I'll happily help you out Lizzie, and you sure as hell won't need a loan for the privilege... it's what forums are all about
i agree completely with that. garages charge extortionate prices these days for work.
we come on these forums to ask for help and to give advice too.all for free.i am not looking forward to the time when i cannot do my own jobs as i cannot think who to trust nowadays.i hear so many stories of bad workmanship from so called proffesionals .
and yes i agree with an earlier statement. things that were hard to do when we were younger with our lack of experience become a doddle as we get older. (providing our bodies can do it ) we can probably still get into awkward places and shapes under dashboards etc but when we manage to get back out it tales longer to spring back into "person shape " !

on all the evidence this would appear to be the problem. after all everything was ok untill you replaced the sensors. other parts worked on the original sensors .when you said you had got new ones i think we assumed you had found oem ones albeit for the caddy.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: mudflaps
« on: 05 October 2023, 18:17:12 »
probably my mistake but im sure i heard someone say the rears are different but the fronts are the same.i suppose if the part number is different it does suggest the profile could be different as you say,
mine is the same as the odd right hand one on ebay .how does yours compare to that one and how much would you want inc postage anyway ? cheers.

overtightening theoretically can only strip or break the nut or thread. itwont actually overtighten the bearing as its 2 thrust bearings back to back and touching each other.

exactly the same as the other 'suspicious' circumstances that have caused various listed buildings and the like to be'accidently destroyed'around the country over the years.
either this WAS a prank by a child in which case nothing will probably happen to him
or
it was an intensional felling by someone in power in which case nothing will happen there either !

75
yes i realise that.i was just trying to offer some advice regarding the sensor orientation and operation.
