Vauxhall Parts Are Increasing In Price
« on: 06 September 2019, 18:02:46 »

I, and I know a number of you, have noted how Vx genuine Omega parts are increasing in value, significantly, and that is if you can get them at all!

Four years ago I decided to replace the door solenoids on both the front passenger and rear nearside doors after they started to fade in performance, which told me after past experiences they needed to be replaced:  One was £60.00 the other £63.10 after TC, but plus VAT.

Two days ago the drivers door solenoid starter to go, and finally gave up the ghost yesterday.  Phoned my friendly local Vx Parts guy, who knows me very well (!!) and got a quote for Part No. 90493702:  £102.60 after TC, but inc. VAT!!

After I gulped, he agreed the prices had gone up, and suggested - if I needed it - that I source the part from others. At least, I suppose the part is still available! ::) ::)

I have always tried to replace my Omega parts with brand new genuine Vx / GM ones, but with this I have found a German (where else!!) based company, with UK contact numbers - Onlinecarparts.co.uk - who will supply a brand new solenoid for £58.19 all in!

Much better 8) 8) :)

No doubt someone will suggest a cheaper price elsewhere, or buy second hand which I try not to do (although a s/h solenoid cost me £29.99, all in, 5 years ago), but at that price I cannot be bothered to chase around for a part that is just a few quid different! :D

But I can understand as our cars get older and rarer that these prices will go up, but by that much.... :o :o ;D ;D :)

That is how I see things, which justifies, rightly or wrongly, my aim to continue with my Omega until the bitter end :D ;)

They've gone up in price, not value.
You're paying for GM keeping them in stock. At some point a decision will be made not to keep them, and they'll be binned.

Yes, indeed, not nice for us old, loyal, customers of Vx, but the truth! :'( :'(.

The door solenoid is a case in point.  My Vx guy says they are still instock, and when I asked him for what cars do they fit he stated...."well, the Corsa B up to 1998 and the Calibra up to about the same time, the Omega........."  Not much of a reason for a major car manufacturer to expensively hold the parts for those!! :o :o :'( :'( :'(

To be clear, something has gone up by £27 in the space of four years and you don't understand why ???

In the specific case of the door lock, it needs a 50p switch, and about 20mins of your time (plus solenoid removal/refit to car).  See Kevin Wood's excellent guide.  Personally, I replace the switch as soon as I remove the old one, and then keep that solenoid* on the shelf ready for next time.

Obviously, most of these parts will be priced in euros, so we do get hit hard when the pound is low for extended periods.  After the end of next month, remember there is another 10% minimum increase on everything.

*Obviously its not a solenoid, its a sort of non feedback servo.

Ah, that's lovely Opti! :-* :-* 8) :y

Keep it for now as who knows, with the new part coming from a trader I have never dealt with before, the curse of TB could strike, and then I will lovingly take up your offer! ;D ;D :-* :-* :)

If I was using my commercial brain DG I would know exactly why, but acting as a standard "someone who wants to pay no more than I have to but still want the same quality; have my cake and eat it".............................I want it for a price just above inflation, no more, no less.!! ::) ::) ::).

Still the new part is less than what I paid four years ago, even with P&P and no TC, and comes from Germany! What could possibly go wrong? ::) ::) ;D ;D ;)

Thanks, that's a great tip TB! :y :y  I had completely forgotten that guide, so if I can I will try and repair ;)

I try, where possible to fit Genuine GM - at this stage these parts have lasted about a quarter of century, so why not fit the same again? However, as you say, some prices are, well, laughable

Days ago I found a weep coming form my aux. coolant pump (the one by the rad), Vauxhall want £140 +  ;D :o. I could have a noname for about £20-30, a used one for about the same (!) or a brand new genuine Bosch made in Germany one for £45, which I went for. Bosch made the original, same stamps as the one I took off, just missing the GM and 90123456... number.

Still more than I'd have liked to have paid, but I spend most of my time now googling part numbers, and checking out people who buy old Dealer stock, or people having clearouts. That's my tip if you prefer to use Genuine Vx where possible - there are other places other than the actual Stealer themselves, Lizzy.  :)

I find that, if you buy a newer car, you don't have to worry about stuff like this, and it probably works out cheaper.
