Mahle thermostats
« on: 19 October 2016, 22:02:40 »

My 3.2 needs a stat and I know Mahle are OE suppliers. On previous ones I have fitted it was obvious that they had the GM logo ground off.
Cant remember where I sourced them from previously though.
Anyone know of a good source.
Tia. :)

Is it worth fitting an unknown 'stat in a car where it's a complete PITA to even see the 'stat, let alone change it?  :-\

Only ever fitted genuine from the US  :-\

Even allowing for delivery they're still a decent saving over Vx...

Its not Mahle, its Wahler. That's why I couldn't find any.  ;D ;D
As said, Ive used them a few years ago, and it was easy to see the GM logo had been partially ground off, probably due to some contractual obligations. I recall Elite Pete and others used them regularily too without problems.
Don't think I have a spare transfer pipe in the shed these days, so I had better be careful.  ::)

It was an ebay seller, I bought one myself recently on OOF recommendation (and as said, GM ground off), however, as Mr Gollum should have one I shan't go hunting for the listing unless he can't locate it.

Best advice that - get a transfer pipe. I got one just in case, but tried to get the old one off without damaging anyway. ...

In the end I smashed it to pieces to remove.  ;D  Probably been on there since new, looking at the alloy corrosion on it.

I find them unpredictable. I have had them pull out pretty easily and had to smash them up because they seemed to be welded in place.
I did have a spare one but it was in one of the boxes of spares that filled the boot of my last Omega when I sold it earlier this year.
The sad thing is that I'm pretty sure all those spares went in a skip, as the new owner had no particular interest and said he never keeps a car longer than 6 months.
Sure enough, 6 months later the car popped up on ebay again.
If I had a small warehouse I wouldn't throw anything away, but I don't so I can only keep a limited number of spares for the Omega.........and the Merc...................and the sons Fiat....

I'm with you, brother!  :( Got my jack, sockets, basically all my tools in the boot, it's completely full, one rear footwell, the hallway of our house has boxes of car parts (we have no garage/garden/shed) and a ton of stuff is at my parents in my old bedroom, and in their driveway / back yard. Oh, and the whole spare Omega that's sitting at Miss DBG's nan's with more parts shoved in the boot and back seat!

I'm trying to save money by getting it while its cheap, but also space is the ever-present issue, too. I'll nip round Tiger's Gonads at night and chuck some bits in his spare estate while he's not looking!

DBG, get a cheap caravan for about £50, dry but tired-looking, and fill it with even more spares.....
