No mate. Dropping the oil and sending a sample to the oil lab! For around 40 notes they test the sample and find microscopic particles of various metals. They then give a breakdown of what the particles have likely come from and thus a good wear-barometer.

As said I don't know what they'll find. That's the fun 

ahh .. the good old SOAP tests .. takes me back a few years collecting samples for those, eventually the RAF stopped wasting spending money on them because they proved nothing, if oil changes done on time..

We were still doing it on Tristars in the early '90's, but I suspect it has been superseded by modern technology.

Nope, an aircraft that was in for an annual inspection.


What do I do?  Nothing since October '15 because 12years of vehicle recovery was making me ill. For the last 3 weeks I've been helping out where a friend works on light aircraft. I've been reassembling an acrobatic monoplane this week, which is a case of in at the deepend. Me, not the plane that is
